Citrix can correct me if I'm wrong, but from this:

"i feel that tipping takes away from the professional service I offer."

and this:

"do you tip your dental hygienist, the person who draws yoru blood, or how about tipping your nurse or chiropractor or physical therapist."

I got the impression that he thinks all professionals should not be tipped, as opposed to unskilled service providers who typically do get tips.

I wasn't making broad assumptions, I was interpreting his post in context. As always, interpretations may be wrong.
 
So put a box for donations to your favorite charity and put a sign that says " If you feel strongly about tipping me, I'll donate to this charity."

Weird, though, when you think about it... Hairdressers (at least in NYS) are required to have a cosmetology degree and are considered professionals by the state. Why tip them, but not another professional?
 
I don't understand the whole not accepting tips thing. If my boss or one of our clients wanted to give me a tip (which would never happen because I'm just a monkey), I'd accept it. There's nothing unprofessional about accepting gratuity. If they're doing it to show you how pleased they are with your service, I think it's insulting to not accept it.

My fault. I guess we just interpreted him differently. I just felt that he was thinking along the lines that if one profession is tipped than all professions should have a tipping criteria or vice versa.
 
my chiropractor also does massages one day/week, I don't tip her for the massages, since it's not normal and I don't tip her for the chiropractice services, I feel it would make her feel unprofessional if I tip her for the massages.

And a massage therapist is similar to the above in what way? You guy's doctors and health practitioners now?

Massage is more or less usually an optional luxury...a masseuse falls more in line with the bellhops, barbers, stylists, valet, etc. Services.

That isn't even in the same ballpark. I'd hire someone to take care of my taxes if i won 10k+. If i'm accepting tips from a few people that come out to less than $1000 a year, it isn't worth it to me to have to keep track for tax purposes. If it is to you, more power to you.

No. But i do date my bartender, barber, and cabbie. Oh yeah, and my masseuse. :rolleyes;

I didn't see it mentioned in here by anyone yet but she could be from the northeast where it is daily and customary to tip nearly everyone that renders personal services. There are very few exceptions like doctors for example.

She'll either get over or she won't, that's her problem or not.
