Three of the required documents they asked to be emailed I took pictures of and sent them jpgs. Apparently they won't accept good quality photos. They have to be scanned to jpg because 'it guarantees authenticity'

wut?

So glad we have realistic and logical rules like these...

Reminds of a recent confuckle... We had no scanner, didn't want to pay to use one, but had plenty of cameras. Emailed some crappy but usable iPad photos, they weren't good enough, someone decided that we should run the documents over to someone across town (an hour away) to scan them "properly." Someone, not me, actually did that. Ran the documents across town. It wasn't my problem, but I had a $2000 DSLR that probably would have saved a trip and done better than that someone's $50 scanner.

Just be happy they'll accept emails now. Ten years ago, email wouldn't fly for my mortgage paperwork, but faxes would... meanwhile I was thinking to myself how much sense it makes for a shitty scanner that uses a modem to send the image to be any more legitimate than using a good scanner and a broadband connection.

Last time I went through the mortgage process a few years ago, they accepted pics.

Probably too late, but it seems like a crappy bank. Not all are this way. But some sure are.

Mine was pretty painless.

If you don't have access to a scanner and have a smartphone, there is no acceptable reason to utilize JPEG for documents. :colbert:

Even Microsoft's Office Lens app is free and incredibly powerful, beats the pants off CamScanner which I had previously paid for and used routinely.

On my last mortgage I used paint.net to copy/rotate/scale my signature onto the forms they emailed me; then used pdfForge to print to PDF.

Totally paperless.

We are setting up our refinance and the part I don't understand is our broker saying "We are going to immediately sell your loan, but will keep the servicing through us". So... Why don't I just buy directly from them instead of paying this middle man?

I recently went for pre-approval so ofc had to submit a ton of documents. Well, I exported a bunch of accounts using whatever web tools my financial institutions had available. My bank for some reason adds "Summary" to the file name when it's created even though it's a line by line accounting. I got a call from the lender telling me they couldn't accept that because it needs to be detailed and "a summary wasn't good enough".

I exported the exact same information, manually renamed the file to remove the summary part and re-submitted. Got a call back not 30 mins later telling me everything "looked great and you are all set". Sigh

This. I submitted several docs for my mortgage from Office Lens, not one comment or complaint from my lender.

I'm going through the process now and everything can be submitted and signed electronically. So much easier this way.
