there are more modern contraptions that do the same thing. no stones... looks like a soap bar with a cheese grater on one side. the dead skin stays inside the container.

That has to be gimmicky. No way that can compare to the whole surface swipe of a pumice stone that doesn't miss one spot.

You gotta use the right tool for the job:

You know the most awesome thing about pumice? It floats. It's a fucking rock that floats. I know everyone already knows that, but just think about how ridiculous that is. A floating rock? What the fuck nature? It clearly shouldn't float, but there it is. It's like Mother Earth's battleship.

May have to give that a try. My heels are really fucking nasty, both look like they have a mini grand canyon running through them.

OP, how deep does it go and does it hurt? I've thought about filing but I figured it'd hurt scraping off what looks like a 1/4 inch thick layer of skin of my heal...

I don't know why, but this post made me laugh a lot more than it should have.

A 15 centimeter (6 inch) piece of pumice supported by a rolled-up U.S. 20-dollar bill demonstrates its very low density.

The abrasion is strong enough to only scrub off dead skin. It won't peel your new skin underneath, you'll know it.

It's not a gradual grind to the bone. It stops working once the dead skin layer if off.

Would it be a weird nerd fetish if I can use the stone on your untouched feet? I had so much fun last night. Sounds like yours will be a blast.

Yes, it would be a weird nerd fetish, pretty effed up now that I think of it. Of course I have no idea what that means because, strangely, I'm open to it. It could be crazy fun!

 for having a sense of humor.

But seriously, get that pumice stone at Walmart for $3. Go home, soak your feet in hot water for 10 mins. And watch the amazingness happen.

Your feet will never be the same.

Grabbing one on the way home from work today. I'll post results this evening (maybe even before and after pics!)

Soak for 10 min and scrub with stone, piece of cake.

I have one that I used all the time in the army, it's really scary how perfect they are for your feet. I took a footbath (bathsalt with herbs and shit that smelled like menthol, a good scrubbing with a pumice stone, foot cream with more herbs and shit, I mean the whole shebang) nearly everyday, and it kept my feet in perfect condition. Some people called it gay or weird but those same people were always bitching about their feet every time we went out in the field, whereas I could keep the same wet boots and socks on for days and my feet would still feel great.

Update mofo. Where is it?

Worked on them last night. I scrubbed each for 10 minutes with the stone, but the only thing I managed to do was transfer the color of the stone to my feet and highlight the nastiness which makes them look worse.

Be prepare for D:
I'm guessing this is from 10 years of wearing combat boots and then running 3 miles a day every day after that...

Callouses and dead skin protect the living part of the foot. Removing them is counterproductive. Might as well be wearing beaded slippers.

So wait. The stone has failed you? Did you soak your feet in hot water for good 10 mins to mush'em up?

If you have serious hardened callous like my dad did, then do what he did:

1. Soak in hot water

2. Bring a fvcking pair of shears. Then cut off the excess callous like my dad did.

3. Get a fine grit sand paper and sand it down.

From the pictures, you don't seem to have really big hardened callous though (like patches of white spots of big callouses).
