To a point, you're right. BUT, if an election is that close, shouldn't those hundreds of voters got off their complacent asses and voted?

It's very unusual for ONE vote to make a difference, but the ONE vote of several thousand voters CAN make a difference.

Of course, you probably just want the voters who disagree with your brand of politics to stay home...

I don't have a brand of politics. I'm not a political person.

Maybe around you, but in this area, there have been that close of votes. Hundreds of votes separating people? Not around here!

Your votes have diminishing values at higher levels, with the highest value being in local elections. Still, the odds of your single vote deciding the election are extremely high even in a local election.

I watched deep space 9 on netflix and set up mouse traps instead. I'm pretty comfortable that these tasks will improve my life more than having voted.

Not always the case. What if you work in a remote location where you're an hour or more away from your polling place?
There are many scenarios where a voter might not have the time to drive to his/her polling place during a 30 or 60 minute lunch break...not to mention the possibility of working overtime or long days that would keep you away from the polls on voting day?

The law does not require that you be paid for the time you take to vote...merely that your employer allow you to take the time if needed.
Absentee ballot?
Even when I'm not going to be busy, I always vote absentee. I don't even work on Tuesdays.
People actually waste time going to polling booth and standing in line?
I haven't been to the voting booth for any major elections since '04.

I voted, but it was by pure chance. I had the day off since I went to the Eagles game on Monday and got home at 3am. I went to the Borough hall to pay my water bill and realized it was voting day. I did what I always do, vote for the new guy. A fellow high school grad was running for borough council and was happy to vote for him. Fresh ideas has to be better than the last umpteen years of the same guys in the council.
