I didn't use ANY gas this month, why was I billed $15 for gas/delivery?

Get some leak detector from Lowes/HD. Chances are you have a old style shutoff valve that are know to have very small leaks. Also check all the connections. You will find a very very small leak somewhere.

prior months were also actual readings, CSR just confirmed it.

this is how incompetent they are. first CSR couldn't answer my question, put me on hold leading me to think she was going to ask an engineer or someone more knowledgeable. instead, i was cold transferred to another CSR to whom i had to explain the entire situation again.
this one tries to tell me 8 therms is nothing, you can cook a meal and use more than that. really, then each meal i cook would cost me $9 to cook. i might as well eat out every meal.

basically tries to do everything in her power to end the call and says i can call back if i smell gas.

and this is why i don't bother calling.

The pipes in your place are YOUR pipes not the gas companies. If the leak was before the meter you would not be charged. The meter has to have something run through it to move. It can be off by a certain %, but would not show usage if there was none.

Just call them up and report a gas leak. They will have some one out ASAP.

they can check all your fittings and find where there is a leak or point out the obvious to you.

Semi wrong. They will come out and shut off your gas. They will do a "basic" inspection but thats IT. They will not repair pipes in your house, they are your responsibility. I know, I went through this not too long ago due to a minor leak. So yeah they can say you have a leak, but they won't fix it unless it's outside.

Much would depend on the company.

He needs to have the gas formally turned off if he wants to avoid the usage charges. Then it is up to him to find out where the usage is coming from. A gas tech should be able to provide him clues if asked properly vs treating like a CSR

Contact the local news or your Congressman.

I would actually do this. If you can show that your kitchen has been disconnected from the gas for quite some time and are still getting charged the same amount as other months, something fishy is going on.

Any chance that the meter being read doesn't actually feed YOUR unit? Maybe there are some plumbing issues you're unaware of.

Do your own meter readings. If you notice the meter going up and you're not using anything you have a leak or faulty meter. If it isn't increasing, they are idiots.

You might have a leak. Don't light any matches in your place.

You've been suckered by Republicans into believing gas de-regulation means competition and lower prices.

It's just the opposite.

Simply adds extra layers and middlemen reaching deeper into your pocket, enjoy being robbed.

Trying to hijack the thread for some stupid reason?

That sucks OP. At least my gas company will charge me $11 for a customer fee every month. Funny, I once had a gas bill that was just the customer fee and nothing else. They never sent anybody to read my meter nor did they estimate my usage for the bill. it was strang.e

Any chance they just average the gas bill out over a rolling 12 month period? They do that at my parents that way you wouldn't have summer months with $10 gas bills and winter months with $150 bills. Leaves it around $50-90 depending on usage.

utility company came out 7am this morning without any notice to change the meter.
i didn't even request it. would've been nice for them to tell me in advance but i'll take the upgrade. he said everyone was going to get upgraded to these eventually.

anyway, he checked for leaks and couldn't find any.

I'm sure they'll repair the pipes at a premium price :D

So if the new meter shows usage; you better check inside the house for the culprit.

Stop by in a day or two and see what if the readings have changed. You did record the initial settings?
