Got to work this morning and my card didn't work on the parking lot gate. I parked in the outside lot and went inside. My card didn't let me past security. They confiscated my card and told me my contractor status expired on Saturday. It seems noone renewed me... :|

I have had system access for 20 minutes now. It only took several e-mails from my boss, several phone calls by me, a personal visit to 4 different departments to expedite the process, and 5 1/2 hours....

But you still have a job, correct?
This was only an oversight? Or is someone trying to tell you something?

You didn't get fired... They didn't care to think about you. Since you are a contractor, you are not that important.

BOB SLYDELL
Here's a peculiar one. Milton Waddams.

DOM
Who's he?

BOB
You know, squirrely looking guy, mumbles a lot.

DOM
Oh.

BOB SLYDELL
We can't find a record of him being a current employee here.

BOB PORTER
I looked into it more deeply and I found what happened was he got layed
off about five years ago and no one ever told him about it. But through
a glitch in Payroll, he still gets a paycheck. I went ahead and fixed
the glitch.

BILL
Great.

DOM
So, um, Milton has been let go.

BOB SLYDELL
Just a second there, Professor. We, uh, we fixed the glitch. So he
won't be receiving a paycheck anymore. So it'll just work itself out
naturally.

The woman at the front desk is the best at her job I have ever seen. She is polite and as cold as ice. She very nicely asked me for my id and said simply, "Is there someone who can come down and escort you into the building?"

I would be afraid is she was sitting at my poker table.

And, Yes, I do still have a job.

That's happened to me before my companys security officer forgot to submit the renewal paperwork for my badge. So when I tried to go through the badge machine it said see officer, so I walked over and he took all my badges called 2 more guards escourted me to my car and followed me off the compound.:| I was out of work for a week because someone left the paperwork sitting on thier desk instead of turning it in and they didn't even want to pay me.

my first job would be to look for a new one if I was of so little importance that I was barred from access.

Man I can relate to this but talk about just being a number.

Unfortunately, my natural reaction when they try to take the badges is to pull them back, turn around and run, yelling, "Mine, mine, can't take my badges damn it!" It would make for an interesting scene.

Be happy it happened when you went into work. Try working the over night shift and have the card expire while your in the computer room. Go to take a leak and no can exit the room. Luckly I could remember the security phone number, but I guess after 3 attempts they'd had come a running.
