All I can say is...go with what ever solution works for you.

I went from Intel to AMD because it made more sense for me. I have really good performance for very little out of pocket costs.

xp1600 processor= $59 shipped (newegg)
Epox 8K3A mobo= $55 shipped (newegg refurb)
ATI radeon 8500LE w/3.3 ns chips= $87 (newegg)
256mb PNY PC2100 memory(samsung on samsung) = $28 after rebate (compUSA)
HSF rated for 1700+ but works great up to 2100+ + 5.95 shipped (SVC)
Total= $234.95

where else can you get that much performance for so little money?

just a P4 1.6A will run you ~$150

And besides that, I always pull for the underdog

amd is still offering some very nice cpu's. the 1600 XP's are going for as low as $59 and are known to overclock close to 2 ghz in some cases. For the price fo a P4 1.6 you could get an athlon +mobo.

Ok fellas just an update! Since I went back to amd I have ran my 3dmark2k1 score up and over 10k with my radeon. Nothin but love!!! Here is my rig.....

Amd Xp 1600(greenie) running at an xp 2100 rating
Epox 8k3a
Kingmax 256 Pc 2700 DDR 333
Thermaltake Volcano2 w/ 7krpm fan
ATI Radeon 8500le (nice!!!)


Still tweakin!!!
