12 days and not a puff.

My depression turned into bliss. They actually say when you quit smoking, that you're brain needs nicotine to produce the chemical serotonin that makes you feel happy. The chemical is produced normally to someone who does not smoke.

The only thing I haven't conquered is my oral fixation. Nothing a pack of gum can't fix.

Sure I have memories of smoking during the "rough times" or when I drink a beer. But I also remember felling worse when I smoked . I don't understand why people crave it or get tempted even after coming off the addiction.

Are you still taking the medication? If not, how long did you take it. If so, how long will you take it?

Is it beginning to get easier?

Yeah. Just munching on pretzels and chewing gum. A lot easier than the first 2 weeks but still have it always in the back of my mind.

I stopped cold after the first week. I still took it for the 2nd week as a "just incase". I would recommend you trying to quit smoking sometime in the 3 week. I think I quit too early and made it a little harder on myself.

You likely mean how much you missed it by the time you hit the first month. Yeah, i see your point. It's like breaking up with a g/f.

I don't smoke, was just curious. :) Well, I guess I should say I'm not addicted. I'll buy a couple packs of cigarettes before going to a bar or party, smoke 'em all in one night and then not have a single cigarette for months. Or I'll smoke a couple packs a week for a month, then stop and not touch one for months... or even years.

I wish I could do that. I guess just as long as you have other things to keep you busy or social you'll be ok.

For what it's worth (and not to threadjack), recent studies have pretty much conclusively shown that smoking weed is more carcinogenic than cigarettes- it's just that people tend to get high less often.
My Mom works with head/neck cancer patients, and a lot of the 40-year olds she sees were heavy pot smokers who never touched a cigarette.

Keep it up, man- 2.5 weeks is something to be proud of. :)

Interesting. Although I always thought that the potheads were probably right about weed being safer than cigarettes overall, I also figured that there had to be SOME health effects to inhaling the smoke. Particulates (especially charred carbon fragments) are NOT good for your lungs, no matter what the source!

Another thing that helps is NEVER smoking in my house or car. Makes it easier not to smoke when you have to step outside in 10 degree winter weather to have one. ;)
