British Chocolates Get The Boot From The U.S.

Some news calls for a box of tissues and a stash of chocolate to help you deal. Oh, wait.

Thanks to a new settlement between Hershey's and Let's Buy British Imports (L.B.B.), Cadbury's chocolates made overseas will no longer be imported to American shores. The deal also applies to beloved British sweets like Maltesers, Yorkie chocolate bars, Toffee Crisps, and British-made KitKats. Woe.

While the ban strikes out against British chocolate that specifically violates certain existing trademarks — Yorkie's name, for instance, is too similar to the York peppermint patty — Cadbury's chocolate won't disappear entirely. The catch is that it will be made by Hershey's, using altered recipes.

Cadbury is much better than Hershey! :colbert:

Reason for this is sometime after WWII various smart US companies bought up the US rights to products realizing solders returning home along with war brides would want them.

OTOH while this might block direct importing, Cadbury USA as some division of Cadbury UK, I don't think it will have any effect on third party sellers outside of the US selling to the US market.

This is what happens when you let an American company but Cadburys. They stopped using dairy milk chocolate in cadburys creme eggs aswell.... the bastards.

Only in the UK, not here. From the sounds of it, people are pretty pissed over there. Cadbury's "New Coke" moment.

Hershey's chocolate sucks. But hey, all the more reason to come to Canada and spend your money. Please come here and spend money. :\

I'm not saying that small grocery stores catering to the sub-continent contingent would still be able to obtain these delights for you but maybe look next to the Maltesers. :sneaky:

I bought a Cadbury egg about a week ago on a whim at the gas station. I thought it had Carmel in it? It had a mix of Carmel and pink stuff. Wasn't that great.

And peppermint pattys are nasty. All about them junior mints.

Indeed. So glad we did not lose our Brit chocolate.
