Here's a slight update... apparently the guy had three "lookouts" helping him, and they are at large right now. They were standing watch over the door while he had the two inside the building. Also, it seems as if my friend wasn't actually raped in the literal sense, but sexually assaulted and forced to do "things." I don't guess that is any better...

HA! He's certainly not going to get unless he spends at least 25 YEARS in prison. Agg. Sexual Battery with certain circumstances(he did 3 of 4, and it only requires 1) is 25 years MINIMUM. Add in the kidnapping and battery with intent to kill and he ain't going nowhere... ever.

That is awful. It's a shame that so many people in this world take a wrong turn every opportunity they get and turn into guys like this. On the plus side he is 18, and based on his prior history and the circumstances of this he will not be seeing the light of day any time soon. He'll eventually get out though and do God knows what next time, which is why I think that if a panel of experts in the area consider an individual to have a high liklihood to reoffend in matters such as this, they should be kept in prison indefinitely until they have satisfied the panel. This would be a clause in all convictions of this kind. I guess that could carry to other crimes, and then we'd have a real packed prison system.

Hopefully those two girls will get through this with minimal scarring.

Me too. Best reason why I can come up with is because this is all too common a threat that won't ever stop. Constant and pervasive threat, almost certain to happen to someone you know or love during your life. Beheadings and other acts of murder can't really compete in that way.
