I used to have one of those for my classroom... I haven't got a clue what happened to it though. It just disappeared one summer. :( I used to teach my math classes how to read it though.

Bonus points making one out of NE2 glow lamps.

Nixie tubes are neat too.

Don't know if it's true or not but I was told they could not use Nixies in the command modules because the constant in-out motion of the digits as they changed could cause a change in mental state of the crew after many hours of viewing. (a form of hypnosis?)

My response was LEDs are more robust than a fragile tube on something that sits on millions of pounds of explosive fuel and shakes harder than a paint shaker. I never did get a reply after that.

12 - obvious
1 - not sure
2 - It's just the infinite sum 1 + 1/2 + 1/4 + 1/8...
3 - no idea
4 - 1/2 mod 7? I dunno
5 - seen this before but I can't remember
6 - 3x2x1 = 6
7 - 6 + 0.9r = 6 + 1 = 7
8 - simple binary 0111 = 8
9 - 21 in base 4 I think
10 - combinatorics... there are 10 ways to pick 2 objects from 5
11 - that's 11 in hex
3: 3 is the code for 3 in HTML.
5: The golden ratio.

Infinitely smaller even!

What I see is an example of one of the few imperfections in our mathmatic language. Namely; fractions don't exist in reality.

You've never experienced a fraction of something?

I don't think LED 7 segment displays were available until the 70s. VFDs weren't invented until 1967. I think Nixies might have been the only thing available at the time.

I bet you mention a lot of "deal breakers" when people propose plans. :awe:

nice - is that a 2 digit nixie tube watch with a CR123 battery? at first glance i thought it was a clear container filled with a stash of coke lol.

Someone's a little sloppy with their creamer! :p

LED segments were around in the 60s just not in consumer products.

I do remember using an HP frequency counter with nixies and it was rather mesmerizing seeing those numbers jump in and out at you as the displayed value was changing. :D

Sad... its all high school mathematics in India and China

I took calculus as a junior, more than a decade ago, and I don't remember any of that shit because it doesn't matter in the real world unless you're at a job that actively uses it.

If it is, then tell me what 1 is. And how 4 works.

Few of them are really hard; most of the mathematics-based ones are really very simple concepts.

How about you take a step back into reality? The useless garbage on that clock is cool and I snickered when I saw it because some of them make sense and I assume the rest of them do, but what the fuck does it matter whether someone else understands it or not? Jesus christ. It's math. You're not going to use stuff like that on an every day basis unless you're in some specific fields. The vast majority of the planet doesn't need to know those for every day existence so there's no point in remembering it after you take the test to show that you learned it.
