Many track junkies are often in need of more downforce in the back to keep the rear tires planted in high speed turns. Current remedies include running bigger tires and a bigger rear wing.

My idea just consists of bolting temporary bars to keep the trunk lid raised while tracking. Boom, instant downforce provided by your trunk (and raising your current spoiler if u have one) Once done at the track, you can just remove.

Sorry for the crappy paint pic, but I think u can make out what I'm thinking of

Wouldn't you want it to be motorized/hydraulic so that it'll raise it for braking and lower it for speed?

Quite a few cars already do that (and I'm assuming that's where you got the idea), but they use a smaller flap. If they'd design the trunk for it, then they could use more of the trunk lid for stronger affect or to make it less noticeable. It wouldn't be hard to come up with something that would cover/retain the trunks contents, or at least provide weather proofing, like a cover that folds out (kinda like the rubber ribbing Porsche had on some of their spoilers/intake that would pop up on the 911, I'm sure they could get that with a lighter material now). If they take it even further they could probably do something that would even aid aerodynamics, something like a small parachute that would bubble out to smooth airflow. But that's getting silly. :p

My dad did that with his fiat Abarth in the 60s.

The cars that have the little raise up lip in the back that does not go above roof line IIRC is just slowing the air down above so that the air below is faster which = better downforce.

This is how the Mclaren F1's rear lip works.

1. Attach long spring, under tension, between trunk lid and trunk floor. It's pulling the trunk lid closed.

2. Tie rope to trunk lid..use the hole where the trunk lock used to be. Run that rope over the top, and down a hole in the top, to the driver.

Drive now has control over downforce.
He pulls on the rope when more downforce is needed. And lets loose the rope as needed to lessen downforce for added speed on the straights.

There are options to set and adjust rope tension, but technology escalation is already very costly.
