I got racked/fscked by my bike today..

I will draw a picture of what happened.. but the good news is I am fine. Not a scratch on me. The guy from the dealership came by to pick me up. The bike wouldnt start after the crash (a main power cable got cut in the crash) said that I was damn lucky.

If you guys remember about my "engine stalling"..well it continued to do that ever since but in rarity. It would do that in the garage too.. I would let it warm up, get on teh bike put it into gear and just accelerate (not releasing the clutch in anycase) and the engine will cut out. After which it would take
a while for it to fireup, a few times to turn the crank and then it would fire up.

Anyway I think it did that when I went into the turn and that is what caused me to run parallel to the curb.

Drawing of the place where it happened.

Explaination:
I was heading south on Orange Grove ave, I was doing about 30-35 in 3rd or 4th gear. Its downhill in that spot.

The green stuff are trees, so I dont know if I hit some leaves its quite possible, or the engine cut out or both. What ever happened I ended up skidding and loosing traction, so I I pulled the clutch in (to let the wheel rotate) and brakes slowly and firmly to straighten her up. As you can see I was heading headfirst for teh curb, but I pulled the clutch in and straightend her up and then let her paralleled with teh curb. The engine was off for sure by then(cause I didnt hear it)

Had I not pulled the clutch in I would have falled into traffic lanes. The wheel was skidding outwards. Now its hard to say if I was coming in HOT, but I have done this route several times so I dont think that could have been a problem. Either case when you exit the curve its rather sharp left and you got to be careful. There are lots of people who have lost control at that final curve.

Anyway your thoughts..

I told gieco that there were leaves.. but then I it could have been the engine. What ever the case the fact is I dropped my bike.

Glad to hear that you weren't hurt. I used to live on Orange Grove back in the mid 70s.

sorry to hear about your bike... what kinda bike do you ride? I'm taking one of those CCRiders courses at Mt. Sac this August, and plan on saving up some money this summer so I can have one up at school by September...

Can't believe you didn't get hurt.. you are sooo lucky. Had an uncle who was in body cast after a spill on a motorscooter.

yeah, that sux. I had a CBR 600 that I got rid of last year and ran it up on a curb. The one thing I noticed is that it straightened me right up.
I was taking a turn at about 70-80 mph (while racing a guy), my peg was scratching the pavement and I knew I was going to eat it hard. When my bike ran into the curb in the median (probably at a 15-20 degree angle) my bike just righted itself and I went straight down the median. Feeling somewhat foolish driving by the cars waiting in the oncoming turn lane, I down shifted and rode a wheelie off of the median to perhaps save some of my self respect.
Try that next time.
And once again, that sux.:(

That sucks, I'd be pissed if that happened to me on my bike. Are you going to get it fixed and ride again?

bummer

you were wearing your helmet, weren't you?

as far as worrying about the next time you go into a curve.....
you didn't get hurt this time, so now you have that fear behind you

I laid a bike down many years ago, and all I got was a scratched knee.
I've had lot worse injuries while mountain biking, and I ride my motorcycle ten times more than my mtn bike.

Glad you didn't get hurt....if you ride, someday you are going down! I've had a couple spectacular 'get-offs' myself. They can fix the bike.

SirFshALot> Yup I was wearing a helmet. That turn is notorious for accidents. The first time I took the bike to work and I came to that area I made a mental note to take it even slowly cause the road bumpy and its already on a down hill. Normally I would have taken the left lane but for some reason I took the right one (which is the longer part of the curve and has the bumps etc etc).

Sharkkeeper> Mine wasnt that bad.. that's a really bad one.

I am glad nothing happened to me, the bike has significant damage all on the right side but that can be fixed easily but if something happened to me it would have taken a while to fix me.

As for cornering again, I am looking forward to going speed cycling this weekend and get oriented with my cornering.

<< Not too many people walk away from cycle wrecks. >>

I'd say the majority of people walk away from most motorcyle wrecks, they just aren't the ones you hear about.
