While replacing my heat sink I decided to write down the numbers on my 900Mhz Athlon.
Using a magnifying glass, I noticed a slight chip on the corner of the core. It's probably been there since I built this computer.

I've never been able to get it to overclock higher than 1050Mhz (8 x 131).

What kind of problems can a chipped core cause?

Well i dont think that chip on your core has decreased the overclocakibility of your CPU.

Usually a chipped core will result in a non-working CPU.

It's really hard to say, in most cases, if you chip your core and it either works fine or not at all. since your chip works fine, the chip has done nothing and hasn't damaged the chip at all. It's the layer on top of the chip that's damaged.

From talking with others... the 900 seems to be limited by yields with about 1050 being the magic barrier. I've seen where some have had better luck. But I think that the 900 ... for me at least ... was a poor purchase choice for ocing. I leave mine at 1000 but I have the memory tweaked out max. If I back off on memory timings... it does 1050 np.

So to answer your question... the chip in the chip isn't hurting your oc abilities at all.
