I got it from hot deals... the $300 20 gig older one for macs... from microwarehouse or macwarehouse or whatever it is...

Previous post said converting it to PC isn't difficult at all (which is what I've heard).

So now I just have to wait.... although I need to get a firewire card (any recommendations?)

Yeah.... I caved...

back to FIREWIRE
How important is it to find one that accepts an internal power connector?

*EDIT*
I guess I'll tell the story. I've been waiting to buy one for awhile. This is a graduation present. I'll end up paying my mom back with my graduation money... and then whatever money I have right now for it. I've wanted one forever. But... I couldn't bring myself to spend $300 for 5 gigs.... $300 for 20 is much better though... i must admit.

Outstanding choice ... you will not be disappointed, unless you got one of the 'old' ones that don't have the stand-up dock.

Old ones are better and more tactile than the new ones, imho. Longer battery life, too.

It's an old one. I don't really like the new one's design... albeit I've just seen pics.

pics of old and new?

Yes I've seen both. Personally, playing around with my friends (old) ipod I liked having the play/next track/last track/whatever right on the wheel.

eh... different strokes for different folks.

I originally wanted to get that... but then when I saw the ipod for $300 (not much more expensive then the zen) and smaller... I guess I couldn't resist. After much deliberating... I just went for the ipod.

And in a side-by-side comparison between the Zen and iPod, the Zen is like a cheap SUV compared to a German sedan/sportscar.

Can't wait til I cave and buy one :)

Except for sound quality, which is what I really care about.

ipod sound quality is quite adequate from what I've heard, although I must acknowledge that the Zen is recognized to sound better.

Next question...

how much would a decent firewire card cost? Does Fry's give this out FAR occasionally? I thought I saw such an offer once.

How important is it to find one that accepts an internal power connector?

Welcome to the family :D Don't get jealous naysayers sway you, I GUARANTEE you're going to love it. If you want to conver it to Windows here's my simple 2-step guide.

1. Download Windows update 1.2.6 Install it on your PC. Connect Ipod and make sure your PC recognizes it as an external HDD. Launch Ipod update utility and run RESTORE When prompted, disconnect, and PRESTO! you have a perfectly good Windows Ipod.

2. Download Ephpod and run the installation program. Launch Ephpod and when asked point it to whatever drive Windows assigned to Ipod. You're done!

Enjoy!

I have the new 10GB. Yes I do like the controls better on the old one, but the old one just looks so fat compared to the new slim design.

Light up buttons are kind of cool, but they should have been blue instead of red.

Define better, longer battery life is becasue the old one has a larger battery, but its some wierd sony one.
