Everytime I try reinstalling my OS I get this message
Pnk5nlQ.png

I go to start menu > pc settings > general > remove everything and reinstall windows. I keep getting that 'some files are missing' error. Anyone know what's wrong?

I have a SSD btw and I have a HDD before. My MSI laptop is going funny and I need to start fresh again but I can't waaaaaw :'(

The first time I encountered this I was dumbstruck but luckily my coworker had an OEM recovery disc that had the necessary files. Be forewarned this process can take all day although it is automated. If you don't have access to a recovery disc, an original ISO might have the files too. The best way is to boot from the disc and reformat the drive after backing up your personal files. Clean installs are always a good idea

Hey. I don't have an OEM recovery disk or the original ISO (I don't think) I'm really stupid when it comes to tech everyone know that by now but can you guide me through this? I really appreciate it. :)

With win8 you don't have to reinstall the OS, just refresh or reset it but of course you'll need the original OS image. Which version of win8 you're running ? You can get the original OS image (ISO) through various channels, including MS itself, & then you can refresh the OS keeping your all other files on the drive(s) intact, the programs will have to be reinstalled though.

I want to reinstall :)
I'm not sure which version I have but I think I have the basic version. So I need to download the OS Image and that should solve my problems?

Do you have Windows activated & if so is it a retail version or an OEM one ? You'll have to backup the OEM activation, then use the original ISO to restore/reintall win8. I'm not sure if the mods will allow this but here's the procedure for that, assuming you have a valid/genuine activation on your system.

Yes it is activated. Windows 8 came with the laptop. How do I check if I have a retail version or an OEM version?
Oh and I read the link you sent but I am confused. So what do I need to download first? Can you pm me? :)

Doing the refresh, like mentioned, will fix your problems. It will do the same thing as doing a fresh reinstall. I'd suggest this first.
