some examples:

-DVD-RW = CD-RW/DVD-ROM

-WXGA+ = WXGA

-NEW CELL PHONE = JUNK

-OS FULL VERSION = OEM version w/no hardware

Within past couple months, to name a few... If I bring any more to memory, I will break this keyboard I'm typing on.

1/4 of my transactions are bad. It's like after my good third order, I will just expect a dud. Exactly what I told myself today, why the fvck are there such stupid ass people on ebay?

Clearly I'm one of the idiots if I'm choosing to buy from idiots, they even have very good scores 99.x% positive feedback out of "XXX - X,XXX transactions", how the fvck am I supposed to know? Gosh damnit, I'm going back to e-tailer, can't stand this sh!t anymore.

I gave up on ebay almost 10 years ago.

Too dammed many scammers operating there...and ebay doesn't seem to care if the buyers get scammed, as long as they get their fees.

Are you one of those people that touches the boiling water and then touches it again to make sure it hurts?

Those deals are just too irresistable huh?
I had a lot of good luck buying junk. Many times I've bought something for parts or repair, and it came fully functional!

WTF? I bathed in that boiling water. Now I'm all burned and I'm ready to jump out and take long cold shower from the "entertainment-BAY."

Do you really save that much money buying over ebay then using newegg or something? I always figured the hassle wasn't worth it.

68 transactions and only got static from one, and he was trying to get another free 10K RPM HDD from me, becuause he claimed it didn't arrive. He was convinced I had more than one to sell, and didn't have postal insurance so he was SoL. He was removed from eBay shortly after this trans.

this. It was badass wheen it was an online garage sale. Since it's all shops now it's a piece of shit.

OP, sorry to hear that you are dissatisfied with 25% of your transactions. Other than 1 or 2 transactions as a seller (flakey buyers) I've had nothing but mostly positive things to say in 12 years of using it.

I was just asked (in an email from ebay) to fill out a lengthy survey about my satisfaction with them. I guess I should have forwarded it to you ...

ebay is for obtaining cheap sporting event tickets and nothing else. everyone knows this

I'd also say older novelty items and toys. I do TONS of such shopping there. Ebay is incredibly great for that super-cool novelty item.

I would never EVER EVER in the history of using Ebay think about buying electronics from there. That's just stupid.

Ebay's worked pretty well for me. I've gotten items that weren't EXACTLY as described, but close enough considering the distance buying. I've only been outright scammed once, and PayPal took care of that. I'm happy with it, but I generally stay away from electronics. I did get my Eee from Ebay, and it's worked flawlessly ever since.

You can still find great deals. I've been buying quite a bit off eBay the last few weeks and have saved quite a bit of money. You just have to be careful and make sure you know what you're buying and make sure it is from a US seller.

In 13 or 14 years of using eBay, I've only gotten something once that wasn't what I expected, but it was my own fault for missing a line in the description.

Here are some things I recently purchased and am waiting to arrive:

1. New copy of Uncharted for the PS3. Cost at Best Buy: $29.99. Ebay price: $18.50.
2. BBC Planet Earth Blu Ray set (new). Cost at Best Buy: $79.99. Amazon: $50. Ebay: $30.

I generally agree with Homer -- I probably wouldn't buy electronics off there in general, though there are exceptions (I bought the Xbox wireless N adapter for $48 from there and it goes for $99 new). I've sold a ton of my older computer hardware on there and never had an issue. If I needed a decent graphic card for a second or third computer, I'd probably risk it but I wouldn't buy any big ticket items off of there.

That basically sums it up... ebay has become a Chinese site, most sellers there are lying Chinese douche bags how have no clue what that are doing. I dont but anything anyone from there, anyone how does is a certified Grade A moron.

Funny, I've bought and sold a ton from there over the past 13 or 14 years and have only had one issue and that was my fault for not reading carefully. If you're smart and pay attention, you generally won't get burned. NEVER buy from China, though I admit, there were a couple of deals that were so tempting I almost took the risk. In one case, I decided to just buy a used piece from an American seller and saved money on the transaction.

Not to mention that Newegg orders get here in like 2-3 days and Ebay orders take to 2-3 weeks to get boxed up.

Ebay is shit. I'll only wander in there if I just can't find a used item anywhere else. But the signal to noise ratio is so bad I can't even be bothered to do that anymore.

I bough a wall USB adapter from a seller with NY address, received the package after 2 weeks or so, shipped from Hong Kong. Similarly bough a screen protector from a seller with address in LA, again, shipped from Hong Kong, this time I just received two screen protectors in an envelope with a copy of instruction whereas the image showed everything is a nice package...

Did the products work or were they bad too?

I forgot, I did take a chance and order one product that I knew was from China. My PSP faceplate was scratched and I wanted a new one. I knew the guy was in Hong Kong but for $13, why not take a chance? I got the faceplate and it was boxed up, was new, and I had no issues.

Otherwise, I assume everything else I ever received was from a US seller. If not, I guess it didn't matter because everything turned out fine. Now, I would caution people buying NFL jerseys off of eBay; most of the "authentic" ones are probably knock-offs from China or Vietnam. For me personally, a knock-off is fine if it is indistinguishable from an actual authentic jersey and costs 50% to 75% less; I know some might get mad though.

They're drop shipping. That's pretty common in the internet age. Even major etailers do that.

yes they worked, but I felt cheated, as I was expecting them to be shipped from here and receive then sooner. But it was my fault, I went there, noone else to blame, now i have stopped. If I want cheap Chinese crap I go to sites like Meritline...

Hmm, it doesn't often happen, but I do find some really good deals on eBay or find stuff I can't find anywhere else. Never buy from a Chinese seller though, but I figured everyone knows this.

Examples:

Like New copy of Shadow Hearts Covenant for $20.

Black label Xenogears in mint condition for $50.

Microsoft quick charge kit for $11, although this was drop shipped from Hong Kong.
