welcome to the club...I haven't had a decent nights sleep in years! BTW, don't take pills/sedatives because they will become necessary in order for you to fall asleep after you use them for a while.

I hear ya man. I'm on Prednisone (type of steriod used to treat my Ulcerative Colitis) and I can't sleep because my heart is pounding so fast, it is too loud to ignore

Nothing puts me to sleep faster than lying on my couch watching old black and white Westerns. And I don't mean John Wayne or Clint Eastwood type stuff.. those are too interesting. I mean random-ass Westerns with no-name actors in it.

Time to get addicted to sleep medication, like a real adult.

So true. I never take any medicines because everyone I know who has taken Nyquil is addicted to it.

As for the OP, the only time I have had trouble sleeping was because of anxiety.

could be anxiety. I remember bringing home my first car that I financed and not getting any sleep that night.

you might be onto something. I'm debating whether to go take a shot of something. I really don't want to get into that kind of habit though.

I hear Diphenhydramine plus alcohol works wonders.

It's not a great idea to mix those, and try not to make a habit of it. Both of them are anticholinergics, and they negatively affect REM sleep. You'll sleep great, but after a week of doing this you'll start to experience severe memory problems and act as if you are sleep deprived.

I was taking diphenhydramine to sleep almost every night, but I started to calm down when I couldn't remember things that happened just a few hours ago.
Strangely enough, I was at one time taking a medication that limited my sleep to about 4 hours per night, and I started to have the exact same memory problems.

Usually I just put cotton balls in my ears when I can't sleep. I can't be kept awake by bullshit bird noise if I can't hear it.
