I can't shutdown!!!!

So i got my new computer the other week, and it's been VERY nice. although i do have one problem - it won't shutdown. It logs me off windows, shuts down the computer, and 2 seconds after its off, it turns right back on! very annoying. I have to just hold the power button on my case (this works). But when i boot up again, it says, "Windows did not shut down correctly...". I don't know, but that seems kinda bad for my hard drive or something. Soooo if you have some tips lemme know :] rig in sig

btw i am using 163.11 beta for my 8800. i've also tried removing that, then Driver Sweeping it, and the problem is still there. I've also tried the latest WHQL driver, same problem. I've also removed all onboard sound realtek drivers.

edit: oh and, for some reason, my DDR2 800 ram downclocks to 667. this is a known issue with the particular sticks i have, unfortunately.

Could be a BIOS setting, but I'm not too familiar with the P180b, so what you'd have to do is press F2/DEL or whatever hotkey your BIOS is set to on bootup (post screen) and then go into Energy Savings or some setting like that and choose. You might also want to check power options by right clicking your desktop and going to power.

ok so i turned off all the "wake" options, and i put my power options on most innefficient ( its either on or off; no sleep, no hibernate, etc.). but the problem is still the same. comes right back on 2 seconds after it shuts down. Does shutting off your computer using the button on your case damage anything? Does it lower you hardwares lifetime or anything? If it doesn't i guess i could just always do that...

Check to make sure you connected all the front panel connectors correctly.

Shutting down with the power button is not good for Windows, you'll eventually end up with data corruption, but if you waited until the point it was rebooting you could shut it down via the power button, but I don't know if that would have long term effects on the motherboard, or possibly even corrupt the BIOS, I've never had problems pressing the power button from the BIOS screens. But I still wouldn't want to do it all the time.

I've had this problem on earlier versions of Windows. Go to the Microsoft Knowledge Base and search for things like "Shutdown Fails". Somewhere you will find articles on this problem. You should look particularly at the ones for your Operating System. They will tell you a sequence of things to check and do to solve it.

One of my cases was solved with a change to a Registry setting. In another case it took some probing to find a poor device driver that needed upgrading.
