I can't install windows xp, plz help!

I just finished building my computer, when i tried installing windows xp, it starts copying files, but the it says, "encountered problem, windows is shutting down to prevent damage to your computer! Why is this happening, or what should i do??

Install Linux.

Or check your cd, maybe try another copy.

All else, I would check your jumper settings on your HDD. That's been a prob for me before.

Remove all unessasary add-on cards. And check all PSU connections. Leave only the video card in the system. Sounds like uo have a hardware conflict. Make sure your CPU HS is on correctly too.

Don't know if this will help or not, but we had the same problem with not one, but TWO Gigabyte motherboards. They both went back, we bought a barebones Shuttle, threw in the hard drives, chip, memory and were up and running in about one hour with a perfect XP install. Something's up with some recent Gigabyte motherboards.

i have the same problem with my computer. i did eventually get xp to install but programs are crashing left and right. my friends think i have bad memory. i am getting a new stick of memory probably tommorow. i'll see if that fixes it.

I'd definately check your ram and make sure that isn't the problem. Also perhaps try another cd-rom drive.

well my new memory fixed my problems. i now have a healthy and fast running computer.
