i just finished putting together a duron1.3 with a k7s5a. this is the first time ive built a computer but everything seemed to go good on the first try. until i went to install windows xp pro. it goes through all the pre install stuff fine but when it tries to install, it says "Fatal Error: one of the components that windows needs to continue setup could not be installed. the request could not be performed because of an I/O device error."
i would appreciate any input from anyone that may have experience with this error or anyone that has an idea to fix it.

thanks in advance.

Try unhooking all cards and cables and then putting them back on in the proper position. Don't have too many devices besides hard drive, cd, floppy and that's about it to start and then try it again.

did you do a format of the drive first? also make sure you have video in your config as well (Mavrick007 left this one out by accident I think!) make sure there aren't any scratches on the cd, if there are try to rub them out with a 100% cotton shirt or something of the like.
