I can't get the fan off

My x2 3800+ is mounted in mobo with standard AMD cooler, I can't figure out how to get the hsf off. I've tried looking online can't find any good instructions. plz someone help.

i find that whispering nice things into it and stroking it a little usually gets it off...

but when i want to remove the hsf i pop the little lever on the side and then verrry gently pull up... i've had the chip pull free with the hsf on these...

pulling straight up has the potential of pulling the chip out of the socket.

you should have a little give between the socket mount and hsf unit. try to jiggle the hsf unit left and right in the socket for a bit then try to lift up. (assuming you've released the lever and it won't come out)

usually this sticking is caused by the thermal paste forming a tight bond with the cpu ihs.

Also, regardless of which method you choose, I would suggest heating the CPU up somewhat before removing the sink. You could do this by simply using the machine or, you can use a hair dryer on the sink. This will minimize the possibility of pulling the CPU still attached to the cooler.
