Did you ever have sound with this computer?
Is the onboard audio enabled in the bios (if you don't have an optional soundcard)?
Have you tried to download and reinstall the appropriate driver for your sound device?
What is your operating system?

1. no, just got my computer and its not working
2. Its onboard audio, how to do you enable it in the bios?
3. Yes. in the control menu it says the C-MEDIA AC97 Audio cant start (Code 10) , It says all the other audio devices are working property.

Also, in the device manager it has a ! next to the C-Media AC 97 Audio Device

Also thanks for the quick reply

that message means Your sound card isnt installed properly. If it is onboard go to that website and search for the drivers for your particular board.

It makes sense that it is enabled in the bios, otherwise it probably wouldn't show up in your device manager.

There is another version: 5.12.01.0025 from Cmedia for winxp located on driverguide's website, which I'd be glad to get for you if you want to try it. Also I see there is a SiS AC'97 audio codec driver on the biostar page you noted which may work.

When you open any of those driver files you downloaded, it prompts you to unzip the file(s) to a directory of your choice.

I suppose its asking you for the appropriate location of the .inf file after you reboot, which should be located somewhere in the many files that are unzipped. You'd think it would be able to find it since it should be part of the installation program, but sometimes windows gets stupid. So drill down to the drivers subdirectory and hopefully xp (which I assume is your OS) and show it where the .inf file is.

Alternately I think you can find the right .inf file first, right-click it and select 'install'
