I can't decide between the EPoX "EP-8KDA3+ or the GIGABYTE "GA-K8NS PRO" or even the ASUS K8N - E Deluxe

I was set on the epox based on the reviews. keep in mind i won't be overclocking. my friend has the gigabyte and loves it and insists that's the best purchase.

What should I do?

ive heard peeps praise Epox too. Monarch Computer won't even sell/support them because they have experience too many problems with them. I'd say go with the Chaintech are preferably MSI K8N Neo Platinum.

Your original options aren't what many of us would buy.

I'd personally pick up an MSI KN8 Neo Platinum Nforce 3... The Asus KN8-E would be a good board too, just not what i'd recommend. The Chaintech is also an excellent value if you're trying to be cost effective

But that doesn't mean that his original choices are not excellent motherboards.

The epox mobo he had in mind is the best overclocker but it only supports 2 Dimms in dual-channel mode. If you get 2x512mb sticks, I am sure this is not a detriment.

It won the Golden Award at Anandtech.

Chaintech VNF3-250 came 2nd - and nick1985 provided you a link where it is a lot cheaper too, making it a great choice as well.

i'm not worried about the budget

so - what is the most stable, fastest (not overclocking) board. I will be using a 3200+ and crucial ram

I am sure that either brand will provide a stable motherboard at stock settings

If you are undecided, go based on features such as what kind of onboard sound it has, 1000 gigabit lan or not, etc.

Also if you are able to flash the bios in windows mode and download it directly from the website easily; hardware monitoring programs for the mobo.

I know Asus has it all and it is the market leader so you cannot go wrong with them. But their boards are overpriced (but if this is not a concern for you...then go ahead)

Any Nforce 3 mobo will do. Just to be different from everyone else i'd probably get a fast overclocking board like Epox (because everyone will have asus and abit) - just to show that you can have a fast rig with a less known brand. Then again you are not going to overclock either...

Asus is a good choice for stability. I've personnaly bought Asus and MSI in the past an never experienced any problem.
Asus tend to be a good performer overall too, based mostly on Toom's H past articles and my personnal exp.

If you really want to buy a safe board whit no problem and good overall perf, Asus is the way to go. Sometimes, MSI can beat them in price/speed/feature. I have one MSI board that is more then 5 year old and work flawlessly to this day. But from the general press, Asus is king of stability/longetivity.

Everytime someone mentions dual channel on a 754 board a little part of me dies.

Asus seems a good choice only if you don't intend to do some heavy ocing since thers a 220 wall maybe a bios update will fix this.

yeah.... socket 754 doesn't do dual channel right.....

i guess i'll just go with the msi - seems tried and true, at least as a whole..... I hope my pc3200 crucial ram will work...

... at factory settings 400 MHZ. You will have options in the BIOS to set your RAM settings manually or "By Speed". The By speed setting read some encoded value in the ram and decide of every setting for you.

maybe i'm not reading your guys' statements right, but there's no such thing as dual channel for S754...dual channel is for S939 and S940 only

MY BAD it was late at night and i must have been tired. what i meant was that you could only use 2 dims in 2 channels at 400mhz stock speed and the motherboard fails with 3 dims. By accident I wrote dual channel. thanks for pointing this out.
