Interesting article...thanks. I wasn't aware they had changed from their original assumption it originated from pigs. Pigs, unlike many animals, can get animal and human viruses, and as a result are usually the melting pot from which a virus mutates into one that can affect humans. I'm interested to see what comes of this story since simply eating a animal with an animal virus will usually not result in an infection since the virus is an animal virus to begin with. The virus usually needs to mutate to affect humans. If the SARS virus would infect people in the original form it had in these civet cats, it would have been widespread over there long before now since they have been eating those animals for quite some time. Anyone that came in contact with them would have easily been at risk of getting SARS.
It will be interesting to see new information come out as they learn more and more about SARS.
