I can't believe it, I'm a Vista basher too

How does Windows 2000 use your HyperThreading cpu? Did you disable HT?

This thread might as well be considered a repost. I mean, what's the point? No one seems to be happy with Vista.

You have selective reading skills.

tru dat. I love Vista. It's very fast to load things that I open and close repeatedly, which I sometimes do when checking video features. How fast is 2x AA? Now let's try 16x, now let's do...
It takes about 10 seconds to go from desktop to being in GTA San Andreas with my game loaded. Keep in mind that it's doing that from a software span drive that uses 5 shitty slow hard drives that are all on the old PATA IDE cables. I think that's pretty damn good.

edit:
vista is just ok, I did/do have some software/hardware incompatibilites with some older stuff, and the goddamn start menu is much, much, much slower than xp
I find that it's a lot faster to use the search feature for stuff like this. If I want to load something like MS Word, I type "word" in the search thing. It lists Wordpad, WordWeb, Microsoft Office Word 2007 (that's the one I want).

I just built a new system with a Q6600, Asus P5K-E, 4 mb Ram, EVGA 8600GT and Windows Vista Premium Home edition. /q]

There is your problem. You should have at least 2GB, sory 4mb of RAM and any new system is going to suck.

It seems like Vista is designed to do more stuff for the average Joe, while people like me want to be in control of their system without Vista interfering. I don't want to deal with UAC, indexing service, readyboost, superfetch, and all those "features", because I have no use for them. I know where all my stuff is, I never use the search feature, I don't use bloatware like Realplayer and Acrobat Reader, and common sense goes a long way in avoiding security threats. With a dual core AMD and 2 gigs of RAM, the system still feel fast and responsive, even after more than a year of not reinstalling the OS, and after days of not rebooting.

Yeah, I disable HT on my W2K machines...

Doesn't seem to make any difference either way, but why confuse the issue, you lnow? 😉
