Just completed my first build and it's been working like a dream ever since I flipped the switch last night. I had my doubts that I could do it, but it was so much easier than I thought.

Intel 845Gebvl2 board (onboard sound works, so does the LAN)
Intel P4 2.66 (registering as 2.67 in Bios)
Western Digital 80gig special edition
512mb Crucial DDR
Gainward Ti4200 64DDR
Antec True 380
Lite on 16x DVD
Sony floppy
Win XP home
Intel active monitor temps: Chip 35c, Zone 1 33c, Zone 2 33c

One question: Why didn't I have to install the HD software...does XP or the board take care of that? Because it seems to be working fine and I didn't do anything except have windows format the drive.

Congratulations on your build! I felt the same way when I did mine a little over a month ago, but I had a couple of small problems. They were all my mistake like not jumpering the HD right...oops. I'm not an expert by any means but I don't think there is any drivers for hard drives. The disk you got I think is for swapping an OS onto your new drive from an old drive. I didn't get one with my WD SE because I bought it online in an OEM form. I did install one for my neighbor a while ago and his came with the disk too. As long as you format it for the new OS, you should be good, and it looks like you are. Nice setup you got, good luck!

Ah man. There's nothing like the first time.

I mean, you're really nervous, and your palms are all sweaty, and you have a difficult time keeping your hands on the parts without them slipping off.

Then you're trying to plug a stick into the socket, but it just takes so much pressure to get it in, you start to wonder if you're sticking it in the right place. Then you try again, and think maybe you have the stick backwards. And then you've gotta do all the screwing and putting stuff in the right place.

It can get messy.

But in the end, there's nothing like it. You can sit back, have a cigarette, and just grin ear to ear, because you did it.

Built a computer, that is.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one. The first time I did it I didn't push the video card in all the way. Turned the box on and nothing but 8 beeps. Boy was I freaking out.
And congrats... looks like a nice system.

First time I ever built a PC the PSU had the switch at 240v (or 220v, whichever the other option is) instead of 120v. :|
Took me almost a half an hour to figure out why it wouldnt boot.

congrats! i just built my first one about two weeks ago... im still tingin'
first thing i did, though, was to bend 12 pins in the outer row on my cpu ( p4 3.06 ) during install :Q... after a bit of hyper-ventilating, i slowly and carefully bent them back to almost straight, fit it in the slot ( at least it fit ), and sadly continued puting the rest together, as i figured the first thing i'd be doing is buying another $600 cpu. BUT, in the end, all was good!!! that i cant believe! i needed a beer(s) after that...
