I've had a 680 for a while now (now with a cracked LCD thanks to the gf...grrr). Just set one up for my parents a couple weeks ago (Samsung 56" DLP, Cablebox, Onkyo receiver, Philips DVD). It's so easy to use, even my grandmother picked up its use after a day or so. With their old setup, she (and my mom) had to have my dad set the inputs, etc if they wanted to do anything. I can't imagine using more than one remote anymore.

I hate freakin TVs, and to some extent, VCRs/DVD players with no buttons on the machine itself. Lose or break the remote, and all you can do is turn the thing on and off, change channels, and adjust volume.

All that extra fluff they add on there to make their list of must-have "features" grow impressively long (and the pricetag larger) becomes irrelevant, unless you happen to be lucky and have a generous manufacturer that lets most of the setup features to be accessed via a universal remote.

I could live with an ugly TV if it had all the danged buttons on the machine itself so if the remote craps out and I need to get the stupid thing to stop outputting Spanish I can do so.

Relevance to this topic: slim to none, but the replacement remote from the manufacturer costs $100 and it's not a fancy thing that can control your whole house, just the default TV remote with its proprietary buttons to control all its features and setup options.

Been thinking about getting a nice remote for a while now...anyone recommend one that will work with a Pioneer Elite tv, Denon receiver, Comcast/Motorola HD digital non-DVR cablebox and Panasonic DVD? Want something that has the full functionality of the Comcast cable remote and has the macro buttons or whatever so I can just hit 'DVD' and it changes the input on the TV and receiver and turns on the DVD player and such. Would like to keep it under $200 (well under if possible).

edit: Amazon has the 880 for only $123 after $30 rebate....hmmm....

it's a cool remote. can't you program buttons to do the same thing the real remote does by aiming the old remote at the harmony?
