I can't believe how hard it is to find a car stereo with SCAN

This feature must be really old school. I've went everywhere and I only found two models with the tuner SCAN feature.

I would have bought either of those (even though they were off-brands) but their dimensions were not even standard and won't fit into GM automobiles.

um.... i've never ever used a post-1980's car stereo (aftermarket or stock) that didn't have a scan feature. on most of them, you just press and hold the tune button until it starts scanning. some of them beep to tell you they are scanning, and some don't beep. seriously, what have you been looking at?

You are describing "SEEK" not SCAN.

Perhaps it's a standar feature and so, unlisted?

It used to be a standard stock/factory feature on stereos but those don't even have it too often anymore.

Blaupunkt models may have the scan feature. They call it something like travel scan or something.

I'm interpolating based on experiences with one model--the San Jose--so YMMV

I simply can't wait until there's a high-feature, reasonably priced, in-dash mp3 player that does as good a job as an iPod or other player. I don't want an iPod jack or to screw around with changing CDs/dvds full of mp3s, I want an 80 gig in-dash player without it costing $2500.

The only thing worth listening to (regularly, anyway) on FM these days is NPR.

Which brand/model do you have?

Can a 'good' microwave be purchased for under $200

Well I'll be, if that ain't the pot calling the kettle black. 🙂

Wow, how long have you been lurking in his threads waiting to drop that bomb!?!?!?!?

Edit: 1000th post!

i can determine if i want to listen to any given station by tuning to it for 0.5 seconds. thus, scan is a piece of crap with its 3-5 second delay.

They're coming out with models with a usb slot to play mp3s off a memory stick. The reason why they don't have 80gb in-dash players is - well, there's no easy way to get songs from your home computer to your receiver unless the songs are stored on some medium.

Difference between seek and scan?
Seek will search through the radio frequencies and stop at the next strong signal.

Scan will stop at the next strong signal, play 5 seconds, then seek to the next strong signal, play 5 seconds, seek to the next strong signal...

I had one Kenwood receiver many years ago that had a preset scan, where it rotated through the AM or FM presets. That was very nice, never seen any other model that had that feature.

Due to an acronym patent infringement, they changed it to LAZY.

My attention span is about the length of the scan pause.

Why is it lazy? I call it "being able to pay more attention to the road and less attention to the radio".
