So I tried to take my fiancee out to dinner tonight. We were at the restaurant, and the people at the table behind us had a kid with them who was being, shall we say, less than quiet. It wasn't HORRIBLE, but it was annoying. Then one of thier cell phones went off, and of course the guy anserwed it and had his conversation in the middle of the restaurant. Then about 10 minutes later, the cell phone went off again. This time he didn't answer it. He decided it'd be better to let it ring because then he could watch his 3 year old dance around to his abnoxious ring tone. When I saw he wasn't even going to make an attempt to quiet it down, I said "turn off your phone". I didn't scream it, but I said it loud enough that they could hear me at the other table, over the phone and everything.
Everyone in the section of the restaurant that we were in all turned to look at me. The woman at the table next to us (not the annoying table, a different one) Said, "Oh, don't worry, we agree with you, the phone is annoying". The people at the annoying table seemed to think that I was trying to start a war or something. I don't remember everything they said, but they did say "What ,you want to take it outside?" and "You jealous cause you can't afford a cell phone?" I just ignored them cause i really didn't want to get into a yelling match, and they shut up in a minute, and the cell phone was no longer ringing.
About 10 minutes later, the manager comes in... apparently the annoying table had complained about me. he walked up to thier table and asked what the problem was, then he came over to my table and asked if there was a problem. I said "well, thier kid is being loud and thier phone keeps going off..." Keep in mind I was talking to the manager in a typical restaurant voice. Something that you'd have to listen carefully to hear from the next table over. As soon as I mentioned the kid, it's mother jumped up and said "Don't you say anything about my kid! If you don't have kids you can't say anything! All kids make noise!" At that point the manager asked her to calm down and her husband started repeating "you want to take this outside?" I pity the child, he really doesn't have much chance of growing up to be anything but a complete ass with a father that plays his cell phone ring tones in restaurants for amusement and advocates physical violence for every little disagreement.
Anyway, the manager asked me and my fiancee if we'd like to move to another table, I said "ok" and we got up to move to another part of the restaurant. The woman at the table next to us (who had sided with me before) then said "excuse me, sir, that's not fair, it's not fair to kick them out" (referring to me and my fiancee). I turned and said "oh, we're jsut moving to another table, he's not kicking us out".
So we moved, and we went to the "competent parent" sectionof the restaurant where we were seated to another family with 2 children. Thier kids did not make a single noise loud enough to hear for the entire time that we were there finishing our meal.
As we left, it turned out we were parked next to the couple that had defended us when they thought we were getting kicked out. They said how it wasn't fair that we had to move, and those other people were asses, and they thought the management hadn't acted appropriately, as they shouldn't have had us move, but should have kicked out the annoying people instead. (apparently they annopying people got pissed off at the audacity of my telling them to shut up, and left shortly after the incident with the manager... without paying)
That's my story. I hope they got hit by a semi truck on the way home.
