First I have to say, that I am from Austria (Europe), so maybe my englisch isnt perfect.

If I start ie6setup.exe under WinXP pro after some time I get the following error message. This behavior doesnt depend if I login as admin or only as a user w/ admin-rights (on my system there are no users w/o admin rights, because it is a single user system). The error message (translated form german):

Softwareinstallation

The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. (Tell me why this testing is important.)

This software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator.
The only option I can select is OK.

I also tried all methods, that are described here, but nothing helped.

When I used method 8 I found out, that onbe certificate was only valid until 01/08/04, so I set the system clock to 2003, but this also didnt help.

Method 7 also didnt work, because the file KBNumber.cat didnt exist. Probably this file is downloadet during the setup when running ie6setup.exe and deleted if the setup fails.

Under Win98SE I dont have any problems w/ the installation.

Under XP I used the XP-version of ie6setup.exe of course.

Thanks in advance.

IE6 is part of XP, I'm not quite sure why you are trying to install it again? Sure, there are some updates for IE6, and you can get those from the windowsupdate site.

Because I want to install IE6 SP1 over the original IE6. There is no setup program for just updating IE6 to SP1, the setup program just detects that you already have IE& installed and only downloads the files for it needs for updating to SP1 instead of all files

I already tried this, but SP1 was not under the downloads that were suggested.

Well, that is how you get it. You can also download it individually here:

http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/catalog/en/default.asp

that is the catalog for IT managers where you can download individual components.

You might want to do the Help->about and see if you already have SP1, if you don't, yet get it through windows update.

I dint find anything. I even searched for things like "ie sp1" or "6 sp1".

You dont search, just bring up the whole list. You should have all those installed anyway. Did you check help/about? There isn't a download for it that looks like ie6setup, its just the sp1 rollup.

To reinstall IE6 in Windows XP, you have to change a registry entry. To find out exactly how to do this, search google. To be honest with you, it sounds like your PC is pretty jacked up, so your best bet is to do a clean install and start from scratch.

Here is a list of all files it found under Find Microsoft Windows Updates->Windows XP professional RTM->Critical Updates and Service Packs:

http://members.chello.at/edith.matuskovics/updates.txt

There is nothing that could be and ie-setup. Under recommended updates it also didnt find anything t6hat could be an ie-setup. In the other categories it found nothing (except multilanguage support).

Like I said, it is not listed as an IE SETUP file. Did you check your help->about in IE yet? Please let me know what it says under update versions.

If it does not say SP1, download and install all the critical updates, and you will have SP1.

One more time, it is not listed under IE-setup. There is no ie-setup for SP1.

No, but it looks like there are all updates listed for every XP pro version except SP1 under RTM, because I can only select XP pro RTM and XP pro SP1.

I read "About Windows Updates", but I also didnt find anything that helped me finding an ie-update on this site.

Well you need to install SP1. Here is the best way to explain this. You install windows XP. You install XP service pack 1. You install all the critical updates. You now have IE6 with SP1. I imagine you can not install XP SP1 because you do not have a legit copy of XP.

Thx, this worked. I disconnected before running the setup to install IE to avoid, that ie6setup.exe contacts microsoft for the logo-testing.
