for some reason i cannot follow sports at the collegiate level.
maybe because my school did not participate in division I.
maybe because the good basketball players only play for a year and bolt for the nba.
just can't get into it.

what's the draw in college sports?

It only started when I went to college. Being in a Big Ten school you're pretty much swept into it.

Basically it's for people who went to schools where they take their sports seriously. If you didn't go to one (I didn't either) then you're not really supposed to care.

I don't get the people who follow teams from a college that they (or one of their family members or something) didn't attend, though.

Or states that don't have a pro team.

College is 'pro' for the most part in most sports.. The athlete's just get screwed out of any of the profits.

It's not something you can explain until you actually go to a school that is good in <your sport of choice> and has rival teams.

i can't follow college football. the BCS makes no sense to me. and it doesn't help that my alma mater is not a football school either. i follow college basketball though but mainly because my college has an awesome team

I follow Pro-sports much more closely, college sports to me is not very indicative of what's to come so I'm not as interested i.e. Christian Laettner (although he won a GOLD medal at the olympic games in 92), Vince Young, Kobe (what college?), Lebron (College? Pay me.), Randy Moss (from Marshall?!)

I admit there are a few good previews in College of what is to come in professional sports through players like Reggie Bush, Adrian Peterson, MJ, Magic and such, but this is becoming rare.

big fan of college sports, kindof follow pro football, but not nearly as much as college.

The atmosphere is just so much better at a bigtime college football game than anything the pros have to offer.

Most SEC stadiums hold more fans that the majority of NFL stadiums as half the SEC has stadiums with 90,000+ fans.

Then with the traditions of college games it just adds another dimension over the normal piped in music/sounds.

And finally, sure the BCS sucks, but because there is no playoff in college, every game means so much more. In the NFL you can start off 0-3 and win the Super Bowl so until you get to the playoffs there is no such thing as a truly "must win" game.

In college, because winning your conference means so much and you have no room for error(usually) you have to win every game or at most 1 loss in a season making every game have much more meaning. Because of this, losses hurt much more, but the wins are much better.

I think the key is you need to have gone to a school that has a decent program... I went to GMU... no football team. Thus that wonderful part of life is lost to me... so I'll just keep watching the NFL.

I follow both, but I prefer pro sports myself. College sure has been entertaining the last couple of years. Of course I've been following a lot of sports the last couple, and several years back I was pretty much generally disinterested in sports.

I didn't really start following College sports until halfway through high school. By the time I reached UF, I was a a huge fan.

I love NFL football, but I have never watched a college game ever. Hell, in the off season, I'll even turn on arena football, but I just can't watch college ball for some reason.

Personally, I prefer college over pro because so many of the more vocal pro athletes are whiny prima donnas complaining about only making $5 million a year for playing a damn game that has no bearing on life. If I was making that much money, I would be too busy smiling from ear to ear to have time to complain about not getting the ball enough, or the league not letting me change the name on my jersey or whatever other insignificant BS you can come up with.

College sports are truly pure competitions compared to pro sports - the players play their hearts out in hopes of making into the big leagues of their respective sports. Compare a fast-paced college basketball game to an NBA game... The college players are hustling their asses off, while NBA players already have their contracts and paychecks and thus jog around at a much more leisurely pace.

Culdn't care less about any sports, pro or college. I root for the opposite team and laugh when the team of choice at work loses for the lulz
