I cannot decide on a HSF

hello,

I need to get a new hsf to replace my stock one on my x2 5000. I have narrowed it down to the:

Arctic Cooling Freezer 64 Pro

and the

ZEROtherm ZEN FZ120

My case is a Cooler Master Centurion 590. I am somewhat sure that the AC will fit, but not so sure about the ZEROtherm.

I only am considering the ZEROtherm because of the massive rebate, otherwise I would have chosen the AC already.

I do not know anything about these, but would also recommend the OCZ Vendetta 2 or Xigmatek 1384. I think theres a rebate deal on the xigmatek.
but for the price of the zerotherm, price may be unbeatable!

EDIT: They have this in the hot deals section and some are saying its a very good cooler and for the price; you may not be able to find a better cooler
 
just get the zen since it's bigger and is so cheap but wait until new rebate comes out.
the one on newegg's site expired 12/31
 
I just bought a XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 from Newegg and its a monster..

I have not installed it but read a good write up on it and for $37 and they hada $10 rebate its still a deal IMHO

I have heard that the 1283 is better than the 1284 but do not know the truth to this. You would think the 4 heatpipes would be better than 3 but I heard since the 1284 has the offset on the pipes that its not as efficient.

Thats why I got the 1283.

The OP really should have junped on that Zerotherm deal last week when it was $15 after rebates.
 
I can vouch for the AC Freezer 64 Pro.

It's the best value you can get in a HSF.

Mine runs dead silent on my overclocked Opteron 165 at 2.7ghz. The fan doesn't even spin! It passively cools the CPU, and I barely hit over 50C. 🙂

For $25 it's a steal.

Best value? Not even. $10 more gets you a Xigmatek that has MUCH more cooling capacity while being as quiet

I don't know about that. I would like to see some data to back up that claim.

It looks like the Xigmatek is indeed worth the $10 extra, if it does indeed drop temps by 10C versus the Freezer.

The Freezer does look easier to install, and it is cheaper though.
 
I would go with the Freezer 64 Pro since it's basically the Freezer 7 Pro for AMD sockets, and the Freezer 7 performed great in benches. Zalman's CNPS series hasn't really impressed me, their performance per dollar hasn't been inspiring and generally the Freezer 7/64 beat it out in benchmarks. Friend has a CNPS 9700 on a Q6600 and it does okay, but they only really shine with the fan at full speed (which is annoying as crap).

Xigmatek s1283 is definately a better cooler, especially for a OCer running a Quad CPU. That is why the first post shows the 10C drop. This guy OCed a Q6600 to 3.6Ghz. For a dual core processor which doesn't generate a lot of heat, the idle temps should be very close. However, at full load, the temp difference will become larger.
