I can understand why there are so many illegal aliens in this country now...

If they stamped her passport after the Adjustment of Status interview, it usually means her case was approved and she's already a permanent resident. The stamp is proof of her resident status, and should say 'Employment Authorized'. If her employer is asking for evidence that she is legal to work, all she would need to show them is that stamp.

Lemme get this straight, your wife's passport already been stamped after the interview, and the USCIS officer said she'll need a EAD or wait till the green card before she can work? What kind of seal/stamp did they place on the passport? Is it the I-551 stamp?

I can tell you tomorrow when I get her passport from our safety deposit box 🙂

She had her employement authorization since last year and she's been working since January of this year. We had our interview this last April (2004) and the INS officer stamped her passport but I can't recall off the top of my head what stamp it was.

Well, if its the I-551 stamp, I've to say you've been dealing with a bunch of moron at USCIS and just wasted $175 for nothing. I-551 stamp gives her the ability to work and travel while waiting for the actual green card to arrive.

I haven't filled out the i765 yet 😀 I was going to wait until tomorrow when I'm off work and can look over it. I don't want to risk making any errors. I'll check the passport first though before I do anything.

I'm sorry but INS' inefficiency is not the reason why the United States has so many illegal aliens. US gives out the most gov't handouts and encourages illegals to hop the border w/incentives (such as driver's license, employment, etc). Heck, they even offer free health care to them while many hard working citizens that pay their taxes cannot afford health care. It's just turns my stomach when I think about these bottom feeding scums with their hands out living off of tax dollars paid by hard working citizens.
