I can see my monitor refreshing?

My monitor is a Sony 520P with res set at 1600x1200@85mhz. If I get a bit close to the monitor I can see squiggly some sort of squiggly effect. Is this my monitor refreshing? How do I fix this without upping the refresh rate because my vid card can't go higher than 85mhz. Also its quite apparent sometimes where as otehr times it's hard to notice.

How close is a bit close? It will always look like that if you get really close to your monitor, in which case it doesn't really matter. If it looks like that from a more normal viewing distance, I'd guess something is physically wrong with the monitor.

those squigly lines sound like interference .....

On my three 19inch monitors ... I can stick my eyes within 2 inches of them .. and there are no squiglies ... though I can see a tiny bit of flicker from 6-8 inches (1600x1200@75hz on all three)

Make sure you dont have any unshielded speakers or other monitors really close operating at different frequencies (or TVs for that matter) ..

I have 4 speakers (2 on each side) on the side of the monitor but they are shielded.

I just moved em a bit further away and I can't notice em unless I am kissing the screen!

nm I see it again

I am about 12 inches away from the screen and I can see them on the left edge of my desktop. It only happens with the desktop because in 3d games they're not there.

Seems like its the refresh rate. I only have my DSL modem and speakers on my deska nbd I turned off the speaker and I still see the lines. Then I moved the modem and I still see the lines. I switches to a lwoer res to see my refresh rate at 100hz and its harder to notice...

Also! Sometimes I see them more apparent and soemtimes they're not as bad.. Could it be a heat issue?

I have the same problem... except mine is worst... mine also jitters. And it only happens at the desktop... in games it's fine. So i'm on the lookout for a line conditioner atm. You should think about that, because it sounds like it's EMI as well.

Turning off the speakers does not do anything, it is the permanate magnets in the speakers that sometimes cause distortion on the monitor. Are you sure that you have interlaced off?

What video card are you using? If it is a 9700Pro by chance, the interference lines are a known issue unfortunately. Try going to the Rage3D forums as there are a whole whack of threads about this already.

Usually that jiggling is caused by low current feed to the monitor. Are you running multiple devices off the same power outlet? Possibly multiple monitors or a HIFI system?

Nope none of that. SO far all the fix listed have not worked for me..

I had the desktop/2D/Windows jitters after I upgraded from GF3 to GF4Ti4200. By chance, I re-did or moved around my power cable connections on the UPSes. Much better, not noticable. Just a thought. Good Luck.
