What's a good "beginner" gun for someone who just turned 21? Not going to shoot it off everyday but just for looks and to shoot someone who breaks in

Beretta. 9mm

My dad used that on me, and many cops use it. I think its also the offical sidearm of the navy, not sure on that. You could also use a glock. Rent both out and try them, see how ya like it.

Standard military issue for the most part. Many departments have moved to Glocks and Sigs.

A new 92F with 2 mags will set you back about $550-$600. I think you can do much better for the money.

For starters, if you don't want to spend much, try a SKS of some sort, or a Ruger mini 14. Around $120-$200. Pistol wise check out a Kel-tec. About $200 as well. That's about the entry price on what I would consider "safe". If you like shootin' you can move up from there.

BTW, shotguns are smoothbore, so deer hunting with them isn't recommended if you're not close to them where you hunt.

My shotgun has an interchangeable rifled slug barrel and smoothbore shot barrel. Whoever said a shotgun will blow a hole the size of a head in something is sadly uneducated... more than a few yards away all a shotgun is going to do is put a lot of small holes in something, unless its a slug, in which case its really nothing but a very large rifle.

And if you want to get into shooting, I'd reccomend a bolt-action rifle.. Remington or Savage Arms are my favorite companies... less of an urge to jsut blow the whole mag, more emphsis on learning what your doing

Hee hee - he used it on you, and you are still walking around?

I shoot a Glock, but IMO they are a poor choice for the beginner. A Glock without good trigger discipline is a dangerous proposition. That said, they are great guns - they are the simplest, most durable, most reliable, cleanest-shooting, and easiest-to-clean pistols made, and are reasonably accurate to boot.

Good for you !!!! Smart move picking up the unconstitutional FOID card before Blowjobavitch gets elected governor this fall. He wants to raise the price to $2000 a year for a FOID. He also has proposed bans on .50cal rifles, any semiauto rifle, any rifle with a clip/magazine and so on and so forth.

Illinois, you put me in a gulag state. (new state motto after Blowjobavitch/Daley take the reigns entirely).

People that are citizens of the People's Republic of Kalifornia tend to give theirs up pretty easy.

Me to. I am also going to pee on his trouser leg if he ever comes downstate to mingle with us farm types at the coffeeshop and I can position myself properly at the right moment in the latrine.

Being a government employee they give me a gun. I get to play with the automatic weapons and all the neat "toys".

RagingBITCH,

Glock, Sig and Beretta are very common in the miltary and law enforcement. Im partial to my Sig 45 (P220) or my Sig 40 (P229). The .40 has good mag capacity, just about the stopping power of my .45 and is as smooth as my 9mm was. If your hand will fit it and it is comfortable for you to shoot the .45 Sig is extremely accurate out of the box. Don't buy a gun because of looks. Get what is comfortable in your hand, comfortable to shoot and something youre accurate with. Try what OmegaNauce said and go to the gun range and rent a couple different guns.

Ive been shooting guns for over 20 years. Ive fired .50 cal rifles, automatic silenced sub guns and lots of different handguns. Eight years in the military and twelve in other government service.

If you live in New York State, good luck. If you happen to have the patience to wait months for a thorough background check... Remember the out of state parking ticket you didn't pay? It's going to come back to haunt you... If you're lucky enough to pass that you have to go before a judge who says wether you can have a gun or not. If you happen to go in front of a judge who is anti-gun...
Also about the only people who can get a license to carry (who aren't police or military) are armed security guards.

Mind you this is for pistols. Shotguns are supposedly easier to get.
Oh and all firearms are illegal in NYC.
