wow that was scary. I booted up my computer into windows, and suddenly it only sees my my 80 gig IBM drive as a generic D: drive, and it tells me I need to format it. After a while of freaking out I almost accepted it and clicked format, but then I restarted back into windows safe mode and bam! I can see the entire contents of the drive, and correct name of the drive/folders and everything..... I boot back into windows, and run the add hardware wizard, and it detects a new hard drive... the correct one.... but then it sees it as generic without files again! it wants me to format it! does anyone have any idea how I might get windows to recognize all the files on this drive again? please for the love of god!! I can't lose this sweet baby...

okay so I restarted again, and chkdsk popped up and scanned the drive for errors and all, (it even read the correct disk label!!) and then it scanned the directory and file #'s, which looked right, and said the drive was working again or somesuch, and then it restarted back into regular windows... but it does the same thing, it just sees a generic D: drive and any time I try to access it (even with chkdsk or scandsk) it tells me the drive isn't formatted, and needs to be.

this is really troubling, I wonder if I'll be able to sleep tonight. please help!!

lots of resets, switching in/out of safe mode, scandisk, defrag, some other IDE utils, and a lot of praying :D
