I ordered two items from a website- apparently one was out of stock / discontinued, but they shipped the other and charged me the full amount of shipping...no notifications were made.

My stuff gets here (half of it, anyway), I call the company..they say that it was out of stock, and that they usually call to notify people but I must have slipped through the cracks. They refunded me $2.01 (yes, two dollars and one cent) off the 12 bucks for shipping

$4 is hardly worth my time to contact them..but I guess I'm a bit pissy as to the principle of the whole thing. If I refused shipment, I wouldn't be responsible for anything..and had I known all of the above, I would have.

So, ATOT, what would you have done?

I would have had better things to do. If $4 is going to create any loss of time for me, I'd just let it go, especially if it required that I interact with one of those disgusting humans.

I don't have anything better to do..I'm off work until tomorrow night. I'm eating cheeseburgers, drinking a beer and neffing. 😱

Edit: Apparently I'm wrong. Order policy:
Please be aware that the closeout items are in limited supply. If these items are out of stock on your order, they will be cancelled off of your order without notice in order to expedite the shipment of in stock items. All closeout sales are final.

Complained, but then I'm fiercely anal about such things -- a dick, if you will. 😉

I've always thought companies slack on this sort of thing simply because they can . . . that is to say, because enough peeps roll over and meekly submit (or never notice to begin with.)

It's entirely possible that their shipping charges do not scale linearly, i.e., that $2.01 is all you're gonna' get, though.

Overall, irl and on the net altogether, THIS is what I've noticed:

The poor, slow and dumb don't react to overcharges.

Those who didn't directly earn the money they are spending -- stay at home housewives, trust fund scum, kids using mommie's CC, etc, also don't care.

Some working class peeps consider it beneath them to complain about overcharges in public situations -- this behavior puzzled me until I figured out it is somehow a class pride kind of thing.

Younger peeps in general are more likely to think it's uncool to complain.

The smarter, sharper and more driven contest every overcharge, every damn time.

Some of the higher wage-earners calculate (quite rationally) that it is not worth the price of their time to contest smaller overcharges.

Older but not yet senile peeps in general are more likely not to let the bastards get over on them, no matter what, as a goddamn matter of principle!

Uh-oh. It's happening to me already. :Q

Are you sure that the discontinued item would have represented half of the shipping cost? That is to say do you think that shipping one item cost them half of the amount shipping 2 items would have? Usually the base shipping fee for ups or other such shipper is ~$10 with a small amount, say about $2.01, being added on for extra weight after that. What I'm saying is that the difference between shipping one item and 2 might actually have been the amount they refunded you.

No, it wouldn't have. However, since my buddy isn't splitting the order with me (since he didn't get his stuff), I got stuck with the entire amount of shipping. 😛

If I was looking at ordering one item, I wouldn't have bought anything...just did because we split shipping. We only ordered because it was cheap..not because anything was actually needed. 😱

Also..if that were the case, it's pretty crappy of them to not adjust the shipping (automatically) in the first place. When I sent them an email (after I called), I was advised that the rep adjusted the shipping cost to what it should have been. I shouldn't have to do that.

Bada-bing!

I was gonna a similar response. Something about the $4 shipping charge being due to the delivery person needing to avoid the fully loaded sentry chaingun he has posted up at every entrance to his house.

people that have regular problems with retailers are usually the problem.

No- LA Police Gear.

I haven't had problems with mwave..they actually gave me a $20 credit after they canceled my order.

I rarely have problems with retailers..I've been singed on eBay a few times (surprise, surprise), but I have pretty good luck with 'real' establishments.
