Well, $199.99 or something, anyway. I have a Palm Centro and I don't like it at all (no Pandora support, no live GPS / mapping, it's slow, it lags/locks up when receiving a text while doing something, etc). I'm very tempted to upgrade...from what I've seen, it has GPS mapping, no Pandora but Slacker is supposed to be awesome, the camera is better (not a huge deal as I have a P&S anyway, but still handy), the screen is beautiful and the keyboard is much bigger.

Is there anything else I should consider before ordering one?

its pretty much the only "latest and greatest" smartphone that can be used on the old sero plans, as im sure you know, considering no android, webos or instinct devices cant be used on the old sero. just be warned that winmo can be a slug at some point and i recommend that you check out the custom roms for it. they GREATLY increase the usability and speed of winmo. otherwise, its a very capable smartphone for $199. :)

if you have time I would wait a while before buying that phone. It will come down in price even further. I have seen them for 99 before. Win mo is still win mo if you know what I mean. Roms do improve the performance of the phone but you are still working with the same os. I have installed different roms on my win mo phone and they are still buggy and unreliable. There is a reason why microsoft ditched this os completely and went with a new build.

If you want pandora get a blackberry tour. IMHO it is a way better phone than the touch pro 2. Better OS and you actually get apps and a better email system. Currently you can get the blackberry plan just for $10 extra a month. Some people have gotten it added for free by having sprint push the books. I could not get them to do it but if you search the internet or go to sprint users.com you can find plenty of threads.

If you have months you might be able to get a win 7 phone. No one knows for sure whether or not it will be supported on sero but if anything when those phones release the touch pro 2 will become super cheap. It could be possible that sero gets an HD2 and then you will kicking yourself for getting the touch pro.

Good luck, I know picking a phone is diffcult on sero right now. The touch pro 2 is not that exciting of a phone and it is very expensive considering what you get.

also, OP, if you dont want to extend your contract, consider buying the TP2 off craigslist or ebay. it will be a tad more expensive ($300-350) but you arent locked into a 2 year contract though :)

The contract doesn't really bother me - I don't think I'll be able to beat $34 with taxes for 500 anytime, unlimited nights/weekends @7pm, unlimited text, data & Sprint mobile to mobile. :)

can you still get on the SERO? I would be willing to ditch my myTouch to save $60/month on 2 lines.

you have to either know someone who has sero and open another line for you, then port it out to a separate account. i dont know if they allow this or not still (they told me they were going to stop all sero account transfers when i did it). also, you can "take over" someones contract with sero on it if you can find them. people are paying $100-200 for it, last time i checked (which was again, months ago).

bottom line is that they dont offer it anymore, and have the new sero plans as the replacement.

Some people are telling me that Windows Mobile 6 sucks, etc, and it's best to wait for 7. On one hand it sucks to buy old tech when new stuff is just around the corner...but honestly, what are the chances of Winmo7 phones being available on SERO? I'm guessing somewhere between zero and..well, zero. :(

The only other reason I could think of to wait would be if the price for the TP2 would drop substantially when new phones come out. I don't know, though, as I think the price just dropped now.

rude guy on slickdeals.net i was readin that sero is now has open enrollment. Sprint came out with another SERO plan that was not as good as the orginal but apparently the original is back.
This is not the thread I was reading but is a good sign that you can still get enrolled. Keep searching and you can prob find the thread with all the instructions.
Good luck

well, those people are exactly right. windows mobile 6/6.1/6.5 sucks and that you are better off waiting for 7.

unfortunately, if you want to stay on the $30/$50 sero plans, the "best" smartphone you can get is the touch pro 2 unfortunately. sprint is a business, and also since they are bleeding money/customers like crazy, they want to get rid of everything that is costing them money, like old sero plan users. thats why they made all the latest high end smartphones available on the new $60/$80/$100 sero plans...which sucks, but i understand why from their point of view.

Yeah I definitely understand their reasoning, but again I just have a hard time spending that much for a phone. Even the $60 all-included plan is a great deal, with N&W at 6pm and unlimited any mobile to mobile - with any phone available - but still that's $360/year extra!

If I could come up with a good enough reason, I'd consider it...but I'm having a tough time justifying the additional expense. Other than being slow, locking up way too often and having a sucky browser, my Centro works fine.

Go for it. It's the best and likely last smartphone on SERO. I certainly has it's downsides, mainly size, resistive screen, and WM. But even considering those I still think it's a good option. If I was on SERO that's the phone I would have. You aren't going to beat $30 a line unless you go with a family plan with several lines. Pick up the TP2, ride out another two year contract, and see where things stand then.

I use it just as much (or more) for internet as I do as a phone, so the size (screen and keyboard) will actually be a plus.

Blah. Maybe I'll go to a Sprint store and play with one in person for a few minutes and see how I like it.

It turns out that the TP2 is not found in Sprint retail stores (not here, anyway), so I may end up ordering one blind.

I'll probably order this weekend - driving from FL to NH in a week, so I'll have ample opportunity to test Slacker/Pandora. :p

Pandora in your car will change your life.

Just order it...Sprint will let you return it within 2 weeks or 30 days depending on who you talk to.

If you're out of contract or 6 months from it being over you can ask for a $70 credit for signing up for a new 2 year contract. After they approve your credit you can buy the phone through the sprint site. I think it's something like $348 after taxes. $100 Mail in rebate. So the phone would be around $178.

I heard the battery life is a little sketchy for the phone.

Im not sure why people dont like 6.5...Ive got a touch pro 2 and my wife has a Hero, and frankly, there isnt anything I can do on her phone I cant do on WM.

*shrug* to each their own though.

No sales tax here, so $130 AR. :) I guess it's pretty much a no-brainer at this point. :D

Windows Phone 7 isn't going to be an enthusiast OS, from what I've been reading. It won't have support for memory cards ("user replaceable storage devices") or multitasking for third party apps. I would hold off on WP7 till after it came out to see if it's worth having.

did you even read the OP?

He's using a Palm device that he hates right now. ANYTHING is going to be better than that. If he can get a good deal on this phone now, get it. If anything, he can ebay/craiglist it later on and get into something better.
