I can afford a GTX Titan SC edition, worth it?

I right now own a 4GB GTX 680 and can sell it an buy a GTX Titan SC edition. I won't consider that GTX 780 because I'd be going from 4GB down to 3GB. I would have considered the GTX 780 SC edition but I don't want to downgrade to a 3GB video card. I can afford a GTX Titan SC edition. I prefer single GPU systems (less issues and less troubleshooting than SLI), so no SLI more me. Would it be worth it going from a GTX 680 to a GTX Titan SC?
 
You have a rock solid video card right now. Why you want to sidegrade ? Their both gonna be 60fps . You dont need the horse power of the Titan, its only for 2500x resolution and SLI high res and 16xAA or higher. Other then that you will not see a difference with your 680 and titan. Now if Crysis 4 comes out,, I could understand the upgrade, Or when BF4 comes out.. gl

Now that 780 is out Titan is a huge waste of money and 6GB is also a huge waste of memory for a single GPU.

With your eery requirements:
1. 4 GB of memory or more
2. Only single card
Titan is your only choice if you want more performance. It's about 50% faster then 680 so you should definitely feel that.

I would like better performance in Borderlands 2, Crysis 3 and Far Cry 3 at 1920x1080 and max settings.
 
Of course you'll get better performance. But given the games you listed and especially the resolution you are using I doubt you'll need 4GB VRAM. So I would get a 780GTX and pocket the extra cash to use towards the next upgrade at the time when games are actually using more then 3GB VRAM.

a GTX 780 will be plenty for 1080P and max almost every game out for less then the Titan
 
You only live once. If you have the funds and can live with a poor value card, go Titan.

People will tell you how you are dumb and that 780 is almost as good but I'm not an almost kinda guy. I went Titan.

Titan? 1920x1080? Normally i'd question your sanity, because surround *might* necessitate a Titan. But 1080p? You don't even need more than 2GB of VRAM there, either.

Here's my suggestion. Get more monitors. Or get 1 higher resolution monitor. I am in disbelief that you're using 1080p, good grief - don't take this the wrong way, i'm not trying to disrespect you or anything. It's your money and by all means - do whatever makes you feel better.

You're also playing at 2560 aren't you? He's at 1080p. If you ask yourself, honestly, as to whether a *TITAN* is worth it for a 7 year old crap, dated, pixellated low resolution, I think many would agree. It's his money though, I certainly don't care how he spends it even if I find it questionable. 😉 I say go for it. Waste that money, OP.

...or he could upgrade to surround and/or 2560 resolution where a Titan makes sense.

id wait and see what ATI has...

I cant justify 1000 dollars on a gpu.
But a lot of people cant justify 1000 dollars on a CPU.

C'mon, not this again. The Titan cannot do 60 fps in FC3 with 4xMSAA and Crysis 3 as well. A Titan for 1080p is perfectly reasonable if one doesn't want to play at low fps or have fps drops.
 
Wait just a damn minute here. Why are people PRETENDING that a single Titan has 1080p mastered? It does not by any stretch of the imagination. Try Crysis 3 maxed @ 1080p with a single Titan = have fun with dips into the 20's.
OP, a single Titan is adequate for Far Cry 3 @ 1080p but its nothing like overkill. You'll likely see around 60fps with dips well below. Heres my solution for you and you better believe its THE BEST ONE:

Sell the 680 & buy two 780's. It will end up costing a couple hundred more than a Titan but will be way way faster. That's the thing to do brother. 3gb of ram is enough for 1080p for a long time.
 
I have two overclocked 7950s and even at 1080p it's not enough for all games, close, but no.

Crysis 3 for example I use the smaa dual gpu option, editing my Cvar for better fidelity it really pounds my 7950s and my i5 into the dirt in some areas. Not to the point of "unplayable", but I'm not pegging 60 with vsync that's for sure!
 
Titan at 1920x1080? lol wow. an oced non reference 780 will match a Titan oced in many cases because the Titan will hit its TDP limit first. at best an oced Titan may be 1-2% faster than a oced non reference 780. the extra 3gb of vram at 1080 will never be noticed.

what I can average 45 fps on my single gtx660ti on very high settings except shadows on high and SMAA. just one of your cards is faster than mine so if you are having low frame rates that is just poor crossfire behaviour. take shadows down one notch and see if that helps. if not then again its just crossfire thats your problem. and yes you need more than an i5 to stay above 60 fps in spots no matter how much gpu power that you have.

How much have you overclocked them?

I'll bet that the microstutter is really killing your experience.

Let's also make something else clear here. Why are people PRETENDING that maxing every single item in the game is a pre-requisite? Now i'm not saying to do anything drastic. However - you can lower one, two or three items in most of these games and THEY LOOK EXACTLY. THE. SAME. with absolutely no difference - except you gain 30-40 fps. Case in point, i've run numerous benchmarks in crysis 3 between very high and high and they look exactly the same among hundreds of screenshots. You'd have to have super human vision with a microscope to spot a difference, because in real world use, there isn't a difference. You don't need 8x MSAA in crysis 3. You get 95% of that quality with FXAA. Additionally, this is applicable to ALL games. You can be benchmarking nerd and benchmark Metro 2033 with every setting maxed, again - just because someone wants to be ridiculous and do that doesn't mean there is a difference in the appearance of the game. You can gain 20 fps just by turning ADOF off. This same concept is applicable to crysis 3 , far cry 3, or whatever. People who max every single item are just benchmark nerds. You don't need to play a game like that, when you can lower 1-2 items, get the same visual quality, and gain 30 fps.

This also completely ignores the fact that there are like 4 games like this. Out of a gabillion PC games. So I guess this all boils down to whether someone is a benchmarking nerd or someone who actually plays games. I actually enjoy playing games. Titan is great for benchmarking, but it IS overkill for 1080p, period - you don't need 6GB for 1080p. I personally enjoy playing PC games, I could care less about how well they benchmark with something absolutely stupid such as 8x MSAA. I don't get some sudden sense of pride playing a game with an absolute overkill setting when it isn't needed. ESPECIALLY when it makes no difference in terms of visual fidelity.

Yep. The GTX 780 makes more sense times infinity. You don't need 6GB for 1080p. Or 4GB for that matter. Oh, but hey if someone wants to waste money, I would by all means encourage that. Why stop at 1 titan for 1080p on some junk TN panel when you can get 3 Titans.

*This completely ignores the fact that many aftermarket 780s are faster out of the box than stock Titans. Case in point: The EVGA SC ACX 780.
