I came within 1/2 inch of losing my left eye last night.

That would have been freaky. I was in bed and I guess my girlfriend wanted to snuggle up against me. It seems I was just rolling over as she went to put her hand on my shoulder. They I felt a sharp pain right below my eye. It was like a soldering iron burn. I yell and curse at the pain. I didn't know a fingernail could be that sharp. Too tired to do anything I just took the pain and went to bed. This morning I got up and looked in the mirror when it realized how close I had come to losing the eye. There was a 3/4" gash about 1/2" below my eye along with some dried blood. I went back to the bed and noticed that the pillow was covered in blood. Ugh...

Of course at work everyone is asking whether I got into a fight last night. Uhhhh.... yea... the girlfriend beat me up. Catch it this Saturday night on "COPS"

my girlfriend often pokes me in the face, but being a girl (bracing for impact) her coordination is not excellent and I often find a finger in my eye. I don't enjoy it.

Lucky dogg. When I was six some girl threw a chisel at her brother and ended up hitting me about one inch below the right eye. I still have a scar from it. It's scary to think about the difference an inch and change makes.

I also had a close call the other night. In the middle of the night my wife woke me to request that I get her glasses so that she could watch TV. Well, it was dark, and I wasn't wearing any clothing. I leaned over the dresser not knowing the bottom drawer was open. As I moved closer to the dresser I accidently kicked the drawer closed. Whew, did that hurt! BTW - I'm 6'5"

When I was younger, my dog (an Akita) bit me on my face. One of his canines punctured the skin on my upper lip (4 stitches), and the other was 1/2 inch below my right eye (also 4 stitches).

Also, while in Army ROTC, was playing a weird game of football (forget what it was called, but there were 4 footballs in play at one time, had to get it into the soccer goal, etc.). I was watching two of the balls in play, but didnt see ball number three. A very large ex-marine through it and got me square in the left eye. Doctor at the ER said that after the weekend (it was a Thursday) I would either be better and be able to see out of the eye just fine...or else I would be blind in that eye. Luckily, both eyes are working just fine with better than 20/20.
