this is what i don't understand. why are we giving amnesty to low level workers, when we could give it to educated people. it makes no sense.

I am an immigrant here legally from a communist country that I don't want to go back to. I can tell you that the so called "fee" is nothing to get legal admission to the greatest free country in the world (and don't let anyone tell you otherwise unless they themself have lived under an oppressive government that gives you no rights).

Pay the fee - there are US citizen soldiers paying with their life, OK?

Too bad all immigrants didn't think like you or I doubt anyone would have a problem with them. The true problem is with immigrants like gersson and his family.......

Actuallly, as a native born US citizen, if given a choice I would rather have someone like gersson and his family be citizens than someone with your attitude.

Well, as a native born US citizen, I'd rather just gersson be deported and you sent to prison. Lawbreakers and those that support them.........of course that's assuming you do anything to support these illegals other then sit on your rear and post about it here......

Why should I or my family be deported even though I am here NOW legally? Is there any reasoning other than
1) You didn't bother to read my original post
2) You don't care and bash immigrants either way
3) You are...not very intelligent.

In the Ali G movie, he solved the immigration problem by letting in only hot chicks, so no one would complain about immigrants and the immigrants couldn't complain about how many immigrants they let into the UK.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like a load of crap. You have a nice rig, you live in miami, your family makes 70k a year combined, you don't have a car or other expenses and yet you had to forgo christmas because you owed $1000 in fees? Did your parents waste all their money on blow?

way to be a d!ck. Anyways, this isolationist policy that we are touting is bullsh!t on a number of levels. What we need is a better quota system. What most Americans don't realize is there are people living in such squalor who would do anything to make a better life for themselves, including picking oranges and cleaning bathrooms. Those aren't jobs that Americans are exactly lining up for, you have to be really down on your luck to take a job like that, yet we depend on these people to do the jobs that we won't, then in the same breath we denounce them for "sneaking" in to try to make a better life for their families. I can go on and on about the morality, and the economics, but as the great Stephen Colbert said "Facts change, lets stick to something that never will...Opinions!!" (paraphrased)

You guys have to admit, 10,000 is a lot...

It's not that much, when you have a family that makes $70,000 a year.

But we have a lot of debt to pay off. Living here is not cheap. 300 a week on gas, 850 rent, 230 a month elec, 100 car insurance, 200 groceries, 100 internet and CTV (ok, that's extra, I know 😀) and on and on.

1000 a week is not that much. Keeping in mind we work 6 days a week and every week -- no vacations.

I was doing well with your story until I got to here.

I am a 1st generation American Citizen-natural born (parents came over LEGALLY via WW2 from Poland, courtesy of Russia). I'm 29 years old, spent 2 years from 2002-2004 unemployed due to 9/11 layoffs with a family of 5. I borrowed my way through school for an associates and a bachelors degree and am sitting on about 30k in debt that I still cannot pay.

What kills me is that I'm currently employed with a decent company making 30k a year in the Orlando, paying the EXACT same bills you are (if not more), with a crappier PC and probably going to have to cancel my internet and cable just to keep more money in the home... and I still have a hard time paying rent OR keeping food on the table. Yeah, that's right. I have to choose.

And what do you get? An illegal family making >2x more money than mine does. You're illegal, so hell, you don't even have to pay taxes (fake SSN = reporting taxes? I think not!). You're better off than my family who was "born into the American Dream".

You know what, QYB and pay the fees or get out. I'm sick of everybody taking jobs from the American worker. That includes China (Asia), Illegals, and the American Management.

I got to say, its a damm sh!tty job if you're only getting $30K/yr.
Hell, my assistants at McDonalds make more than $30K/yr

I have a friend who just agreed to marry a girl from Russia who lives in his apartment complex because she was "nice" to him. He told her that he wants her to move in with him so they can see if they'll be compatible as a married couple....but that if they aren't compatible he'll still marry her just for the green card.

I think he's making the biggest mistake of his life....but I've never thought he was very smart to begin with anyway. lol.

He lives in South Carolina right now..and last weekend he brought the girl up so his mom could meet her. My bf said she was average looking at best and she was quiet.....but more "conniving bitch" quiet than "shy" quiet.

LOL. Can't wait to see how it goes...

Whatever. That brings me back to my point that you weren't paying attention OR you think it's ok to hold a 5 year old accountable for a situation forced on him.

A 50 foot concrete wall with a .50cal sniper tower every 100 yards behind a very deep, very fast moving river filled with pirahna and hungry gators which would be behind a thousand yards of heavy mine field. Snipers have "fire at will" orders.

Every person coming into the states *must* have a valid passport and *cannot* stay longer than 2 weeks without a temporary visa which must be sponsored by a business that's existed longer than 20 years and the person being sponsored *must* be here to work at a business OTHER THAN the one sponsoring them. If they lose that job, they're out until they can get another visa. The visas will be one year and *NOT* be renewed without leaving the country for six months before applying again if preceedings toward citizenship are not started before the end of the 1-year work visa.

I fvcking hate illegals.

No, it's not crazy. What's crazy is the blatant disrespect and disregard for American society. Illegals come here and leech off society. The net loss is in the 10's of billions per year (proof linked in another anti-illegal-immigrant thread on AT). I'm tired of it and I want it to stop.

You think hating illegals is a problem? Haha, no it's the only solution left, thanks to the US government.

If you want to take my hatred for illegal immigrants personally, like it seems like you are, that's fine with me -be my freakin guest. Doesn't make any difference to me.

Look at it this way....if your parents can work legally in this country and the US government decides to oust all immigrants with legal permits that came here illegally, there would be a span of time that many jobs would not be filled. So...it's just as well that your parents are here and working as long as they pay taxes on what they make. The real beef that most americans have with illegal immigration is that many immigrants come here, work under the table, suck free benefits out of the system, and don't practice any means of birth control. This is basically like the carpenter bees that are multiplying in the eaves on the North side of my house....I can't do anything about it and they're tearing holes in the wood.

I hear you. I do know of many people like that...
but most of them are just simple folk who are paranoid about being deported
Looking back, I wouldn't be here illegally if I had the choice. My parents were actually both going to be deported. But they felt sorry for us so they only deported my dad...
he, ummm, was here again 2 weeks later...

lol I'm sorry I know its bad, I really do. But what can I say?

And that's exactly why we need a fence from the gulf to the pacific..................I've seen the fence seperating Kuwait and Iraq- it starts with a 4 ft high yellow/black painted vehicle barrier.........then a 20ft deep by 20 foot wide ditch......then a 4-5 foot high sand berm.......then an electric fence, then a 10 ft high razor wire fence, then another electric fence............pathetic that the richest country in the world claims a fence isn't possible...........setting up the same type of border in our country would cost much less than paying for another 6k border agents every month- and probably be far more effective........

Is the threat of deportation a concern to you or your family members?

Since I have a work permit, I am here legally. However that wasn't the case many years ago. I remember my father making dinner for me and my bro (I was about 12) A knock came to the door. They Pushed in and put cuffs on my dad and took all of us over to my mother work (cleaned houses) and put cuffs on her too.

(Now that I think about it...that was pretty traumatizing)

They let my mom loose and deported my father, like I said and he came back.

The real problem are the corrupt governments of central america. In my birth country, Honduras, no one bothers to vote cos the choices suck and they're all ambitious business men. It isn't the US's problem, of course.

Don't forget to mention the root of the problem is that American employers would rather hire an illegal than a documented worker, to line their own pockets with the profits. I suppose it's just easier to say that illegals are somehow stealing jobs, than it is to get to the people that are blatant tax cheats, and are bilking the American public out of legitimate revenues. Revenues, that if were collected would pay for all public services and health care just like every other employee.

Then they want to make *you* the tax payer put up a fence so the workers have a more difficult time to get to their untaxed jobs. Where is the outrage there? I never really see anything being addressed in that respect. It's always the easy out to level the finger at the lower denominator, which is the workers.

The employers know that it is happening, but they hide behind "ignorance" of these events and after sweeping a few "isolated illegals" to the side, it's business as usual. It sounds a great deal like the cocoa industries problems with child slave labor. They knowingly buy cocoa through child slave labor networks, because it's cheaper than adult workers. It's all a focus on the almighty dollar, no matter the cost the ends always justify the means. Cooking the books, slave labor, payments under the table, and bribery is all just the way corporate america works.
