I came here illegally

**As to not confuse anyone, my post has been slightly modified for a more streamlined discussion. **

:)

Before my story, 2 things.

I am humbled to be able to now legally work here, and my parents aren't the brightest people...

In 1989, I was 5 yrs old. My father was 28 and my mother 24. My crazy brother was 3

-I came here from a San Pedro Sula, Honduras slum.
-Everyone is always talking about America this, America that in central america. My parents figured that they'd try making the journey over here.

As of 1997, I am here legally, can work here, go to school, pay taxes, etc. But it is only a work permit.

My parents are otherwise law abiding people who pay taxes and work honestly (contruction and cleaning -- surprise!)

Given recent events, I began to think about the morality of granting illegal aliens and other non residents a path to citizenship.

Funny thing is, I think that I shouldn't get automatic citizenship for coming here illegally!

I think it's morally incorrect to reward bad behavior. On the other hand, man I would love to be able to be here permanently. I couldn't imagine living in Honduras after English is basically my primary language (my spanish is not as good since it's not taught in school).

I'm 23 now and my bro is 21. He's more typical of the issue -- gimme! Another factor is I have another brother who was born here. He's a smart kid; age 14. He speaks spanish like a puerto rican (hard to understand!).

Anyway, this is getting long. Ask questions as you see fit. I just wanted to tell a story. I know some people here have some strong opinions about illegal immigration and such. Hope I can add a bit to the considerations.

If you were in control of policy, what would you do to solve the border/illegal alien problem?

If you're struggling to pay these fee's, why is it that you have the right in your signature and the internet you're currently surfing?

I don't think minors at the time of crossing should be responsible for paying the fee. What choice did they have.

:D I find nothing wrong with how you have come here and lived. What I do find wrong is the illegals who have come here and done nothing, they are a disgrace to your type.

Keep going strong!

Why were your parents not able to come legally?

(Not being an a$$ at all, honestly curious)

I gotta disagree there.

loads of ppl come here illegally, late in their third trimester, just to give birth here and want to stay. the children may not have had a choice to come here, but their parents had a choice. they choice to bring them, they should pay.

imagine the loopholes ppl would be trying to create if the kids they brought here illegally got to skate? too open to abuse.

I'm sorry, but this sounds like a load of crap. You have a nice rig, you live in miami, your family makes 70k a year combined, you don't have a car or other expenses and yet you had to forgo christmas because you owed $1000 in fees? Did your parents waste all their money on blow?

I knew somebody in prison who was Chinese... his parents (chinese) went to Portugal for work (from China), and he was born there, so he has a Portugese citizenship. When they came to Canada, his entire family became citizens, but he was lazy and never bothered. He got arrested, and is being deported... back to Portugal, where he has NO family and doesn't speak the language!

I have to wait. The bill that will soon go up for a vote is still pending.
As a matter of fact we paid the work permit fee 2 weeks ago.
It's not a terrible burden but it does kinda stink :p

The citizenship fee, though -- damn that will be a big one.

I understand how you can come to that conclusion.

However, for the sake of brevity I didn't make a 100 page essay. 2 yrs ago we were really down on our luck. My father couldn't find ANY work and I also had a hard time finding and keeping one.

My father is self employed. Some years are better than others. Some can be downright miserable.

You guys have to admit, 10,000 is a lot...
