my current system is an athlon 64 3200, eVGA 6800, 1gb ram but the mobo doesnt support PCI-E, would it be worth it to even upgrade around this card? Id keep my case, HD's, and ROM.

It would be a nice alibi to move to a PCI-e platform. What do you use your computer for? And how much are you willing to spend on upgrades?

Welcome to the forums!

The correct answer really depends on your current needs. If your 3200/6800 still meets your needs, to put it simply, don't upgrade. Even for a free card.

And if you do need to upgrade, you're going to want better than an old 7800GT for your new rig. Seriously, you can buy a 4670 these days for $60 or less (after rebate) that will smack around the 7800GT like a bad habit.

aww I was looking for a better analogy. Something along the lines of the 7800GT getting smacked around like a Saigon whore on Chinese New Year.

But yes the 7800GT is ancient and not worth to upgrade to use only that. Maybe you could try and sell it to some sucker for like $20 or something on Craig's. If you do upgrade you would want something better but then you would obviously have to spend more money for cpu/mobo/ram/gfx/psu and possibly case.

I wouldn't bother... it'll do well for things games based on the Source engine or Doom 3 engine... but the new stuff like Crysis/Far Cry 2 or Oblivion/Fallout 3 will run like crap at all but the lowest detail settings.

thanks for the suggestions guys. You're all right tho, If I were to upgrade Id rather do it properly. and because Id like to play some of the more recent games respectively....
