i broke a cd in half--how do i recover?

I think the myth part is that it could cause serious injury. Unless it hits you in the eye, I don't think it would do much.

And those Kenwood drives were awesome. I used to have one. It got harder and harder to read media with though over the years. It would have been nice if someone kept that technology going and moved it over to DVD and such because I remember copying data off a CD in a Kenwood was pretty quick.

Ah, gotcha.
When this CD exploded, the PC was on my desk, putting the drive perhaps a bit above eye level. But no pieces emerged from the drive. Just a sudden, loud noise after the disc had finished spinning up.
