I bought this ram for only $179 @ NewEgg last Fri!!!

Glad I stocked up on 8GB of it first at $179 😛

This is the traditional price increase this time of year. After Christmas you'll see it start dropping again.

memory is cheap, HOW much do you need? 4 gigs if you're some uber power user. Ram prices are incredibly cheap compaired to what I remember paying for my AST 286. a 2 meg upgrade, I paid 800 bucks.

I'd be more then happy to pay 300 bucks for 2 gigs. I know it's a lot more then it was a month ago, but how often do you buy memory?

That's the worst justification.. EVER.

how? back then a person made less then they do today, today you're getting more product for much less cash. You can't spend as much today as you did back then. In 89 I spent over $1,100 bucks on a 130 meg HD and $700 bucks on a 14.4k modem. Try spending anywhere close to that much on either thing I mentioned today, you can't do it. Technology is so cheap now a days it's almost scary. My first PC, with a MONOCROME monitor and no HD cost more then an SLI Alienware system, to the tune of 2-3x as much.
People who complain about spending 200 bucks on a buttload of memory have it GOOD I tell you *shrug*
I hope you're not serious.
Read up on basic economics. You're ignoring dozens of factors that affect prices.

word has spread that the RAM in question easily hits 800MHz at the same timings - and could go up to 1000MHz with relaxed timings.
That is why everyone is jumping at it.
It seems to be identical to the kit rated for PC2-6400.

here's all the economics I need, in 89 I made jack sh!t for money and everything for my PC was expensive as hell *to say the least*
today I make a bit more then jack sh!t and everything is dirt cheap. I understand it cost far less today to manafacture electronics, that's fine and all. All I know is, I spend a whole lot less and get a whole lot more.

with economics shouldn't the prices go up? I mean my 8,000$ pc in 87 would be compairable to a maybe 2,000 PC today. That's 1/4 the price, cars go up in price, my meat in the stores go up in price, everything cost more today. I am greatful computers have gone the oppisite route. Like I said anyone who's paid 400 bucks to have a 2nd FLOPPY DRIVE added to a computer has no problem with 300 for 2 gigs of memory 😉
I don't care what effects prices, I just know I'm paying less, and that's +++ in my book
