Not sure why but I've always wanted a graphics tablets. Yesterday I saw buy.com was selling this one for $35 (or $33.25 after coupon).

Couldn't find any bad reviews on this thing and for $33 I don't have to feel too guilty about buying one. I have no need for one as I'm not an artist or designer. Nor do I need to write anything. Maybe now that I own one I will start doing all that though :p - If nothing else, I can use it to play isketch :) - Anyone else here own a tablet and if so what do you use it for and how often do you use it? Knowing buy.com it'll probably been another 2 or 3 weeks before I get the thing.

i use a Wacom tablet for website design. without a doubt, it's the best money can buy! n the wacom tablet is just overkill for playing fps :)
buy.com isnt so bad. usually i get stuffs within a week, sometimes faster with their free shipping.

Tablets are really great. I use mine for all kinds of flash work and it also comes in handy when I'm roughing out an idea for a model. Great tool.

Err.. Tablets can't even play FPS's

at least my Tablet PC couldn't... movement was erratic and you couldn't just point and kill.

I'm looking to get a tablet at some point soon. It would come in handy for a lot of the PS work I do.

I'd really be interested in how you configured your tablet to play FPS games.

here's the specs of my tablet. it comes with a 5 button wireless mouse. resolution of 5080 lines per inch. not sure how that differs from dots per inch. but whatever, it has deadly accuracy, thats for sure

I've always wanted a tablet. I bought a Wacom Bamboo a little while back but found it ultimately unusable to me. The tip would depress (which I didn't like, I wanted it to be solid like a pencil). Also, you didn't have to actually have it be touching for it to change the cursor position. I guess I want something that's more akin to a typical touchscreen with stylus. I actually don't know if anything short of that would work for me. It probably would with a lot of practice.

When did tablets get so little? We used to use them for digitizing maps but they were 4x6 feet.

Like a Cintiq? They're damn nice but it's hard to justify spending 3 grand on a single tool for pure hobby use. Tablets do take a LOT of practice even for seasoned artists but they are invaluable.

Just looked it up. Wow, yeah, that'd be nice, but the price obviously isn't for hobbyists. I was meaning more like a regular tablet PC or like the Nintendo DS, only instead of a screen it'd be the regular tablet part. I think some of the cheap ones are kinda like that, but they seem to generally be crap (driver/software wise, and quality wise).

Do you have to use the mouse that comes with the tablet usually? Can you just use your regular one or can you have both mice plugged in simultaneously?

Most tablet pc's cursors move as well without having to actually touch the screen, btw.

I need to make more use of the tablet features of my Thinkpad x61t. I bought it for its SXGA+ screen and tablet features. I used it for development and to jot down notes/ideas.

I actually use it for pro work because I can fit it in my work space better.

One major difference in Wacom tablets versus the other brands, they don't require batteries.

A great painting app for tablet users :

Yeah, the Bamboo is solid and for the price, a great deal. It was auto-detected perfectly on the computers I used it on and I didn't have any issues beyond my own inability to get used to it.

I have a 12x19 waycom one.......

I like to color.

It cost a lot but, its been worth it in photoshop, it's great because it also sees the angle of the pen and the pressure. Good for funny shaped pen tips. It came with a bunch of pens and tools I don't use.

you can use anything. at one point, i had the tablet into the usb, a trackball, and another usb mouse. all three worked simultaneously.
