extended warranty for a laptop is very good idea, but why is the rate so high?

I wish I had bought an extended warranty when my boat anchor of a $3000 Sony HDTV died before the 2 year mark.

I agree.....pay the extra because if your screen ever gets cracked, you just saved $200.

I called the store, had them refund the warranty.

I'll just wait for little annoyances like the fan thing to keep coming, and mail the thing in to the manufacturer on the 11th month.

Then I got taken to the wall. I paid $2100 on a $4200 car. :D
:Q

That better be a 7 year, 70k mile warranty.. lol

you paid $2100 for a warranty on a CAR???

You did check it out beforehand, right? Could have saved yourself about $2050 if you'd just had a mechanic inspect it and tell you what looked good and what might cause problems...

As for the OP: For a Compaq laptop the extended warranty isn't a bad idea, since they tend to die immediately out of standard warranty.

It's a 2000 dodge caravan I bought from a dealer. 48000 miles on it. The warranty is a four year additional 60000 miles. It covers EVERYTHING and includes roadside assistance and tire coverage.
The caravan is a nice car but it has some known mechanical issues, especially the transmission. I was in the market for a minivan and my budget was $9000. For $6900 out the door I walked away very happy.

I did have a mechanic look at it. Of course. This way any mechanical item that becomes a problem in the next four years is already paid for, (less a deductible of course).
