I don't think it's "cool", I just think it's fun as hell.

Regarding safety equipment, I've had people advise me not to buy wrist guards because they will get you into the habit of catching yourself with your hands when you fall, which is actually a good way to injure yourself. Last weekend I learned that the hard way by dislocating my thumb in an awkward fall. Ouch!

Well, the board probably does suck, but I can't tell since I'm probably doing things wrong. I might be too heavy for the board, I can't get it to get much speed at all. I'm pushing off a bunch and it gives it a little boost but it comes to a halt pretty quickly.

I think the only way this board is going to ride is down a steep hill. Ah well. Can I lube up anything to make it go faster? :x

What about these kinds of boards? - They look pretty fun and you can get a lot of speed without pusing off...I guess. I watched a video of the ripstik and I figure The Wave is basically the exact same thing.

Every kid within a 40 block radius has one of those.
You cant really do tricks on it though.

Probably not too many, though I did see a few youtube videos of people doing flip tricks on them.

Or you could spend less than one of those fairy boards on a blank deck setup with good trucks, bearings and wheels.

Those ripstiks/wave boards do seem pretty...well fairyish for lack of a better term. I'm broke is the problem, and Skateboards aren't too high on my priority list. What board should I look at though down the road? Link me up to some 1337 boards.

You just need to go to a skate shop, tell them your budget and say you're after a blank deck with decent trucks, bearings and wheels. Most skate shops employ people who skate and know their shit about skate boards. They're usually young, enthusiastic people who are more than keen to help you get started.

there are two types of skaters.

1) is the dude that knows it will be fun and attract chicks.

2) is the dude that insists he has this calling or whateverthefuck...dude gets tazered and is still skating as a 30 year old virgin showing his ollie impossible to middle school nerds.

welp I got one of those wave boards about a week ago and have been having fun with it. I'm pushing the weight limit though, so it will only go downhill pretty much. A lot funner to ride than the crappy skateboard I got though, for sure.
