I bought a new CD head unit for my car

I needed to replace the factory deck so bad in my 1987 Ford Crown Vic, so I bought myself a Sony CDX-CA710X. It will be installed on Wednesday. It looks sweet and should be a great addition to my car.

Next up: new speakers. 😉

LMK how that Sony is. I have Sony for my home stereo stuff but from what I have heard it isn't as good for car audio......

sony's are not too bad for car audio, personally, I am a pioneer fan for head units. Be happy with your sony and enjoy it. Just as long as you stay away from Aiwa 🙂

You should have installed it yourself 😉

really. it's not that hard.
I realise it is not that hard to do, but I don't really like the idea of tearing apart my dash and playing with wiring and adapters to mount the unit. I did enough of that when I was younger. Let someone else do that work.

I did manage to find some reviews of the unit and most were very pleased with it. The biggest like was that it would not skip on very rough roads. The biggest dislike was no seperate subwoofer out.

I will post my experience with it after the install.

here is a link to what I bought: http://sm.crutchfield.com/cgi-bin/S-3kaGYGpHQY7/ProdView.asp?s=45&c=3&g=300&I=158CA710X&o=m&a=0&cc=01&avf=N

this is why you dont want someone else to do it. what respect does 5.25$/hr bubba joe have for your dash 😱!

good point! I'm thinking of getting this 1 also for my wife's mini-van but i'm getting it from crutchfield. At least, they'll
give me (i hope) everything i need to do the installation. Only prob. is no auxilliary input (optional) w/c i need to connect XM radio. 🙁

i think alot of 150$+ decks have aux inputs. as far as putting it in a minivan goes..the only thing extra that you really need is something to fill in the space cuz theyre usually 2-din. the filler is only 10 bux

crutchfield usually comes with that for free.

i bout a kdc-mp919 kenwood unit, and installed it myself today, not bad, i had accidently cut a wire that was needed, but i soldered it back together, next up, box building, and installation of the sub, and amp i ordered.

the headunit looks amazing, although i drained my battery while installing it, cuz i had the doors open, and lights on for about 2 hours, then i had the radio on for another hour or so, car didnt turn over 🙁

This is what I want..

The faceplate is down and the buttons are visible in the picture, but when you 'close' it.. all that shows is a smooth black front. Theres and LED display behind the 'plastic'.

I like it cause its nice and low key.. and will blend with my black dash nicely.

I want a new headunit partly because my current one doesn't match my dash lights. I guess I could tear up my dash and switch the bulbs to match the headunit but that's a PITA for a crappy headunit. It's such a stupid reason to want a new hu but I can't help it. 😛

mine does that, i piked it up used for 200 shipped

oh, and sony, isnt exactly the best when it comes to car audio. pioneer, alpine, eclipse, kenwood (high end) are all of much better quality.
